Extension Activity: Service learning programme
Anaiyur village (near Madurai, Tamilnadu) was selected for the program.
Brief Activities
Mass cleaning: Along with sanitary workers and panchayat workers and panchayat school
children, our college students involved in the service learning learning program conducted a
mass cleaning program in anaiyur segregating the plastic waste and making the public aware
about the hazards of plastic waste.
Health and environmental awareness exhibition: competitions were also conducted to
motivate the panchayat school students (Class I to VIII). Students were briefed about the
importance of personal and environmental hygiene, pollution issues, health, the importance of
nutritious food etc. Also children were motivated by learning songs, chart and model preparation
and cleaning the school campus.
Tailoring for woman folk: Tailoring classes were conducted for the benefit of women and they
eagerly learned to stitch blouse, frock etc.
Health awareness camp: It was conducted in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals, Madurai for
the benefit of the village community.
Eye camp: Eye camp was conducted in collaboration with the Meenakshi Mission Hospital,
Madurai which benefited 260 village people.
