We believe that it is important to include parents as we help couples prepare for marriage. You have invested much love, time, energy, and finances into raising and training your child in order to see this point arrive in his/her life. Please respond in writing to the following questions and return them to your son or daughter so they may be shared in their next premarital counseling session.
1. Describe your relationship with your son or daughter:
With your future son-in-law or daughter-in-law:
2. Express how you will help your child to “leave you” and “cleave” to his/her spouse:
3. Are you aware of any reasons that would prohibit this couple from marrying at this time?
4. How often do you expect to have visits with the newly married couple?
5. An area of adjustment that we foresee in our son’s or daughter’s marriage could be:
6. Are you able to express a written word of blessing to this marriage? Yes No
If yes, please expound below. If no, why not? Please explain.

The following is an actual example of a written blessing:
Oh Carrie, the daughter of our youth, the apple of our eyes. From the day in Hawaii that we first knew you would join us, you
have brought immeasurable joy to our lives. “Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.” Yes, Carrie, you have done
nobly—you have chosen to revere the Lord, and for that you earn the praises of men. We bless you today, oh precious one. May you
receive back the joy that you have given. While you will always be our precious daughter, in the days to come you will take on a new
role—as wife…with all our love, all our support, all our hearts, we release you this day to be Jeremy’s wife.
Jeremy Levi—we have prayed for you for over 24 years! Though we did not know your name, your smile, or your strength, we did
know your character. For God called us to pray that He would raise up a son from a God-fearing home, a son obedient to His Word,
a man to seek after His heart. So this day comes as no surprise…the only unknown was your name. And here you are—156 pounds
of flesh and blood (and four pounds of ice cream and two pounds of chocolate!)—you’re an answer to our prayers. Today we gladly,
joyously receive you as a son. As you pledge to Carrie, we pledge to you both to support you and your marriage with all our hearts.
Welcome, our son!
