It’s well and truly soup and fire days. If we don’t plan otherwise, children run the risk of overeating and staying indoors gaming too much. Being in this highly competitive mode for too long leads to disagreements and moodiness. In addition, many people suffer from a condition called S.A.D due to the lack of light in winter, affecting mood and wellbeing. As the holidays are fast approaching, may I encourage your family to plan in some outdoor activities for the holidays—rug up and enjoy a rainy hour or two, play in the mud, a nature walk, play with the dog, paddle on the river, have a campfire or something that gets children outdoors for at least some of the time. Dental Visit Please ensure that all dental forms are to be submitted by 28th June. Two years and older preschool children who attend Playcentre are also welcome to register. DI’S MESSAGE/QUOTE

    Term 2 Week 8 / Issue 9– 21st June 2019

    Principal’s Message

It’s quite unbelievable that a few short

weeks ago we were heavily in the middle

of drought and scorching heat and now

into some below 0 degree mornings. It’s

well and truly soup and fire days. If we

don’t plan otherwise, children run the risk

of overeating and staying indoors gaming

too much. Being in this highly competitive

mode for too long leads to disagreements

and moodiness. In addition, many people

suffer from a condition called S.A.D due to

the lack of light in winter, affecting mood

    and wellbeing.

As the holidays are fast approaching, may

I encourage your family to plan in some

outdoor activities for the holidays—rug up

and enjoy a rainy hour or two, play in the

mud, a nature walk, play with the dog,

paddle on the river, have a campfire or

something that gets children outdoors for

at least some of the time.

    Student Free Day

Teachers from all over the Barossa

Valley gathered on Friday 7th June to

    attend T&D on formative assessment

and student agency. In addition, Truro

hosted a group of PE Health specialist

    teachers for their Professional Learning

    Community session.

On our planning day, we planned

    lessons in “Interpreting Explicit

    Information” which is a reading

comprehension skill that is critical to

    comprehension.

  • SCHOOL NEWS Girls Crows Cup Carnival - Berri

    On Friday 14th June, three

girls from Truro PS and six girls

    from Light Pass travelled to

    Berri with Mrs Robertson to

    participate in the Crows Girls

    Football Cup Carnival with

    about 300 girls from the

    Riverland.

They played 7 games of two

    10 minute halves. Tackling

    was allowed and they

    quickly picked up the

    game rules. With some

    awesome dancing with

    Claude during the

breaks and a trip to the

    hospital for an injury

    check, they were rather

    exhausted by the end of

    the day.

    The integri ty and

collegiality of the girls was most impressive. They

were so encouraging of each other.

    These experiences

    are fantastic for

    t a k i n g o n

    c h a l l e n g i n g

    opportunities and

    practice teamwork

    and resilience.

    Well

    done,

    girls!

    TERM 2

Friday 28th June - Melissa Linda

    Friday 5th July

    Heat-Up Lunch Days

In the winter months we like to provide an opportunity for children to have a warm lunch. Please find

following a roster for Heat Up Lunches each Friday (except for lunch days) for Term 2. Please let office

staff know dates you can help. We will need at least two parents each week to help with the heating up

of student lunches. If we do not get enough volunteers we will not be able to provide this option for your

children in the winter months. These lunch days benefit all students and we know that children look

forward to having heat up lunch days. If you can please spare approx 1hr it would be greatly

appreciated. Heat-up lunches can include soup, sandwiches for toasting, leftover dinners, etc.

Where possible we encourage healthy options in line with the Right Bite Policy.

Please clearly name your child’s lunch and include eating utensils.

Any parents of students are invited to help with heat up lunches.

    BOOKCLUB

LOOP, Linked Online Ordering & Payment platform, allows parents to

order and pay for your child's Book Club requirements in one simple

online process. LOOP orders are linked to our school and our Book Club

Ordering Group. Orders sit pending until the school submits the final

    school order to Scholastic.

If parents want to pay by credit card for online Book Club orders, LOOP

makes it easy! Orders will be submitted safe and sound to schools

packaged with your child’s name, eliminating the need for paper order

forms and eliminating the need for our staff to sort book orders. THIS WILL

BE OUR PREFERRED ORDERING METHOD FOR 2019. If you do not have

access to the internet we will still accept orders, however, we would

prefer you to use the LOOP ordering system.

Due to the size of our school we only have 2 classes set-up (R-7 &

Playcentre). When you register, please go into the Profile Tab, then the

Children Tab , find child’s class & click on the child’s class dropdown

    menu & select R-7 Dittrich & save .

Please note that the while Truro Primary support the Scholastic Book Club,

we do not endorse all of the books in the Book Club Catalogues.
