The Year 6 Prefects welcomed the students at all the gates and then visited the Kindergarten classes. We also attempted a welcoming song over the loud speaker, however, the wet weather drowned out the sound so we will keep trying to start the day in a positive manner to allay any slightly anxious students. Reconciliation Week National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Thank you to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Staff Committee who have been working with our staff and students to include special programs and activities relating to Reconciliation Week. School Attendance All students should be at school unless: • They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition • They are currently unwell.

Students who have a medical certificate to stay at home will be supported to learn from home in line with regular procedures if they are able. These regular procedures are different to what was offered during the learning from home period. If you require work to be provided to your child whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition, please contact the school for assistance.

Please note, students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as being at increased risk by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), should attend school unless a medical practitioner advises otherwise in writing.

If your child is unwell, please do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school.

If you need any support to get your child back to school, please contact the school.

    Kindergarten 2021 Information

We have rescheduled our Kindergarten Information Morning for parents of prospective 2021 students. This

morning provides an opportunity for parents to gather information and make an informed decision about their

child’s education. In October, we hold an Information Evening for parents of 2021 enrolled students.

    Tuesday 4th August 9:45 -11am – Kindergarten 2021 Information Morning Thursday 29th October 6pm – 7pm Kindergarten Information Evening

    Library Books and Home Readers

It is wonderful to see more students return to the library and reading. Under the current guidelines, we

encourage students to access books at school but there is no borrowing of library books or home readers. K-2

students can access home reading through Whushka, the online program introduced during home learning.

    Dance and SISA

As external providers are currently not permitted, Dance and SISA will not continue until restrictions ease.

Kindergarten Sport is being taught on Tuesday for KO and KY and Wednesday for KB, KG and KS.

    Mrs Wendy Mwanga

THIS WEEK IS NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

Reconciliation is about acknowledging our history, saying sorry for past wrong doings but also looking

forward, reconciling and making amends so that we can truly be equal.

In Year 6, we are learning about the stolen generation in History. The stolen generation were Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander people who were taken from their families. On the 13th of February 2008 Kevin Rudd,

the Prime Minister of Australia at that time, said sorry on behalf of Australia to the many Aboriginal and

Torres Strait islander people. This occasion is now know as “Sorry Day” celebrated each year on 26th May.

Other classes around our school also learnt about reconciliation this week. Some learnt about Australian

history, while others celebrated Aboriginal heritage and culture.

Students Return to School It is wonderful to welcome our students back to school this week. Hearing their laughter and conversations in the playground and their classrooms has been wonderful. 1T had a visit from some very interesting Frilled-Neck Lizards! They have been researching and learning about different types of Australian animals as part of their Informative Writing unit in English. Computers and Laptops Borrowed from Manly West We would appreciate parents returning any iPads or Laptops borrowed from the school. These need to be returned via the office so they can be signed back in. Respect, Responsibility and Aspire Cards Teachers will be providing extra Respect, Responsibility and Aspire cards this term to take into account the weeks we have been in the remote learning mode. Due to construction work, students in Years 3-6 can place their expectation cards and banners in the boxes which are located on the table outside 2L near the school office. School Banking At present, School Banking is not being offered. We will notify you when this program restarts. Smiling Mind App Managing our emotions and supporting each other can be challenging at the best of times. This is why, more than ever, we all need to be doing our best to regularly pause, take a breath and be proactive in looking after ourselves and others. The Smiling Mind app provides information and practical ideas to help us all stay well.

The PBEL for this week is Responsibility.

Wash your hands and use hand sanitiser before you eat and after you play.

School Buses and Physical Distancing Measures

Please note the physical distancing measures announced by the NSW Government for public transport do not

apply to the dedicated school buses that deliver students to school gates.

Please note also that on non-dedicated school bus services, where students travel with other members of the

public, school students will be given priority access, even if this means the desired physical distancing measures

will not be possible on that service.

Please encourage your child to tap on and off using their Opal Card to assist State Transit in tracking travel

patterns. The following letter from State Transit to schools about this is reproduced in full below.
