Suggestedagerangefortheseactivities:3-11.(Teacherswillneedtoreadboththebookandteachingnotesbeforeexploringwiththeirclassanduseandadaptthesuggestedactivitiesasnecessarytomeettheagesanddevelopmentofthechildrentheyareworkingwith.)TheactivitiesintheteachingnotessupportawholeschoolfocusforcelebratingElmerDaybyexploringElmer’sWalkbyDavidMcKee.Itisimportantforschoolsworkingwiththesematerialstoreadboththebookandnotespriortoengagingwiththeactivities,sotheyknowthepotentialofwhatcouldbeundertakenandexplored.Priortostartingtheactivities,youwillneedtoinvestigateandplanatriptoanearbylocationwherechildrencanobservetheirlocalsurroundings.

ThisassemblyisdesignedtostarttheElmerDayCelebrationsandsetthecontextfortheindependentwritingworkthatfollows.ItissuitableforallchildrenfromEarlyYearstoYear6andcanbedoneasawholeschoolassemblyorinphasesasappropriate.
