RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluate the causes and impacts of past floods, especially the event of 2011, with a focus on resources within the basin.

Develop indicators required for the assessment of the various flood management and mitigation measures on wetland flora and fauna; recreational, domestic, industrial and municipal uses; shoreline and floodplain built environ-ments; and, the impacts on agriculture. Develop an Integrated Resource Response Model customized according to the defined resources and integrated within the decision support tool of the Flood Mitigation and Management Measures Technical Working Group.

Co-lead (Canada): Glenn Benoy / [email protected] Members Canada: Marianne Bachand, Marc Mingelbier, Alain Rousseau and Bernard Doyon

Co-lead (United States): Perry Thomas / [email protected] United States: Rose Paul, Phil Von Bargen, Tim Mihuc and Donna Parrish

MAIN TASKS

(Some tasks will be carried out with other Study technical working groups and adviso-ry groups)

Indicator development for wetland and fauna (wild rice and hard stem bulrushes; fish (northern pike, copper redhorse); spiny softshell turtle; riparian birds (least bittern, blue wing teal, black tern, Virginia rail); hairy necked tiger beetle; muskrat overwintering)

Analysis of water uses and indicator development. Inventory of recreational, domestic, industrial and municipal water uses; Survey to obtain from all water uses, information on the preferred regime of water level fluctuations; and Identification of the degree of impact

Development of Integrated Resource Response Models for the assessment of flood impacts, water fluctuations and water level regulation on resources in the basin

Flood vulnerability assessment and flood hazards mapping

Qualitative assessment of the shoreline ero-sion and loss of real estate property and public infrastructures

Analysis of impacts on agriculture

Evaluation of the soil quality following flood deposits and analysis of the impacts of stream alteration, tillage and animal densities

Resource baseline impact assessment

Assessment of cumulative impacts of anthropogenic modifications to the system
