TI-IE ASSEMBLY,

NOTING Article 16(i) of the Convention on the Inter­ Governmental Mariti1:1e Consultative Organization concerning the functions of the Assembly,

HAVING EYv\MINED the Report of the Mari time Safety Comma ttee on its twenty-second session,

HAVING CONSIDERED the measures recommended by the Comrnitte-e concerning safety radiocommunication requirements for novel types of craft,

ADOPTS the measures recommended by tho Committee as set out at Annex to this Resolution,

INVITES MGrnber Governments to take appropriate action for application as necessary.

SAFETY RADIOCOHMUNICATION REQUIREr.mNTS FOR NOVEL TYPES OF CRi\.FT

THE MARITIME SAFETY COMi'UTTEE,

HAVING EXl'JUNED the measures suggested by the Sub-Conm.i ttee on Radiocommunications concerning safety radiocommunication requireoents for novel types of cra£t,

TAIGNG ACCOUNT of the provisions of Regulation 4, Chapter I of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1960, as aoended,

RECOMNENDS that:

(a) novel types of craft of any kind operating in the narine environment on short international voyages should at least be fitted with radiotelephone installation conp.Iyang generally with the relevant requirenents of Chapter IV of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1960. Additionally, in areas not adequately covered by radiotelephone coast stations, such craft should fit radiotelegraphy equipment at least to the standard of reserve radiotelegraph installation as specified in the Convention, and also carry a radio officer and provide appropriate watchkeeping arrangements;

(b) provisions should be oade for continuous listening on 2182 kHz at the plnce on board fron which the craft is usually navigated and a qualified radiotelephone operator should be carried;

(c) a radio log approved by the Administration should be maintained;

(d) emergency position indicating radio beacons should be carried where the Administration considers it appropriate.
