Transcript of Residence Life Journal April
No one knows for certain how April got its name, but it may have come from the Latin word ‘aperire’ which means ‘to open’. April is, after all, the month when in the northern hemisphere buds
begin to open and things start to grow again after the winter. It could also be that the name comes from the Greek
goddess Aphrodite.
Residence Life Journal
Philosophy of the Residence Life Program
The expressed purpose of the Residence Life Program here at Thaddeus Stevens
College of Technology is to foster self-development, good citizenship and democratic principles. These goals are accomplished through acquisition of decision-making skills on the part of the student and through emulation and promotion of values inclusive of respect to fellow students, honesty and the involvement of students in the residence hall governing structure.
The Residence Life Program also seeks to create an environment of understanding and appreciation for the values of students from diverse backgrounds. It is through the development of this kind of sensitivity that
students grow personally, which impacts directly on other program purposes of citizenship and emulation of democratic principles as set forth in the College’s mission and purpose.
The purpose of the Residence Life Journal is to provide a newsletter that
centers around the Residence Life Program. The journal is informative, educational and strives to promote the overall mission of the college within a residence life setting and to the benefit of the campus community at large.

Annual Egg Hunt Approximately 400 children, family and friends gathered on the front lawn of the Mellor Building on Saturday, March 30 for the Annual Egg
Hunt. This was, on all accounts, the largest egg hunt the College has sponsored. Special thanks to Mrs. Mary Ross and her student volunteers for organizing a tremendous community event. A free lunch was served
to all who attended after the Egg Hunt concluded.
CONGRATULATIONS TO: Kevin Le – BUAD – Freshman
Kevin was the first student to see Dr. Cooper in person, with the correct answer to the question located in the March 2013, Residence Life Journal.
The picture is of a geared clock mechanism, which is located in the area directly below the bell tower in the Mellor Building. This mechanism is critical in the operation of all four clocks simultaneously on the tower.
Winner!
A friendly reminder to all grant students, 10 hours of community
service must be completed by May 9th. See the Multicultural Affairs office for

Spring is a time of rebirth, inspiration and creativity. Here is a quote by Steve Jobs that reflects the same:
“The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of be-ing a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one
of the most creative periods of my life.” ~Steve Jobs ~ (2/24/1951 – 10/5/2011) Co- Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Apple, Inc.
