IntroductionIntroduction• The year 1999 marked the beginning of

DLSU Library’s intensified effort towards capturing more returned books.

• Aimed at facilitating the return of library books during and especially beyond library hours and holidays, the use of book chutes was introduced.

• The book chutes are strategically located at the different entrance/exit points of the De La Salle University such as the Gokongwei, Velasco, North Gate, South Gate and the Library Lobby.

Designing and planning Designing and planning the studythe study• The Input – Process – Output (Gerstein, 1994) will

serve as the framework of the study. The input identifies the statistics of usage, profile of users using the book chutes, improvements made, etc. What other inputs can be included?

• The process involves the assessment of the identified input. The assessment was done through a validated survey questionnaire and an analysis of usage statistics.

•The output refers to the proposed action plan for the improvement of the Book Chute Service.

Managing the research:Managing the research: MethodologyMethodology

• This study will use the descriptive method of research. What other methods may be used in conjunction with the questionnaire survey?

• When should the survey be conducted? • Who will be the respondents of this study? • What Library standards should be consulted and

used as basis for the improvement of the questionnaire? Prepare the questionnaire.

• Use descriptive statistics such as frequencies, mean and percentages in presenting the obtained responses to the instrument.
