The Haunted of Hill House

The Haunted Hill House was about eighty-year-old mansion built by a man named Hugh Crain.

In this book there are four main Characters which are Dr. John Montague who is an investigator of

the supernatural. We also have Eleanor Vance she is a shy young woman who resents having lived as

a recluse caring for her demanding invalid mother, Theodora and Luke Sanderson who is the young

owner to Hill House and also invites people to the house.

Dr. Montague hopes to fine scientific evidence or wanting to study paranormal activity for

supernatural things. Hes been looking for a haunted house with some people that he thinks will begood for experiencing paranormal or supernatural activates but then he only ended up with two

people showing up which where Theodora and Eleanor and theyre both cousins, theres also Luke

who is a member of the family of the Haunted Hill House that Dr. Montague is renting.

Dr Montague the finds Hill house which has a long history of tragedy happening and no one wants to

stay because they believe that the house is haunted and anyone who buys or rents the house only

stays for few days.

Whilst they were in the house they learnt how the house was built 80 years ago by Hugh Crain and

they are the first even family to live in the house, whilst in the house hes wife died in there and he

was left with his kid and he dies, it ended up with a whole bad things of history happening and

unhappiness. Then came a thought to Dr. Montague that the house is not being haunted by any

ghost or supernatural things but that the house itself is evil and full of bad things.

Hill House has two caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley. The blunt and single-minded Mrs. Dudley is a

source of some comic relief. The four overnight visitors begin to form friendships as Dr. Montague

explains what the building holds and what history has being going on in the house, things like suicide

and other violent deaths.

Eleanor, Theodora Luke and Dr. Montague begin to experience strange events while in the house,

including sounds and unseen spirits roaming the halls at night, strange writing on the walls and other

unexplained events.

Eleanor and Theodora are in a bedroom with an unseen force trying the door, and Eleanor believes

after the fact that the hand she was holding in the darkness was not Theodoras; its Eleanor the

house wants.

The story then becomes clear that the house wants Eleanor and the spirit of the house is taking over

her. Eleanor was forced to leave the house her into her car, but she is then killed when her car

crashes into a large oak tree on the property.

Shirley Jackson

Shirley Hardie Jackson was born in San Francisco California; she was an American Author and a

popular writer. She had influenced writers as Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Nigel Kneale and Richard

Matheson.

Shes best known for a short

story called The Lottery and

also known for the 1959

novel called The Haunted Hill

House which was a horrific

story. Shirley Hardie Jackson

sadly passed away from a

heart failure whilst she was

sleeping, at the age of 48.

Existing Adaptations

After the book there has been two adaptation made for The Haunting of Hill House and was adapted

to a film, one was done in the 1963 and again in 1999, both movies where titled the name The

haunting.

The haunted (1999) version was different from the novel and was directed by Jan De Bont noting

this version of the movie presented the novel unpleasantly and received my critics, whilst The

Haunted (1963) was directed by Robot Wise. This version of the movie received faithful adaptations.
