Technology use of Latino born hispanics is much behind their American

born counterparts, as well as Americans.

Latinos are the largest minority group and the largest immigrant group,

yet there numbers regarding technology use are behind those of Americans.

More than three-fourths (76%) of Latinos use a cell phone, compared with

86% of non-Latinos.

Non-Hispanics are fast approaching a universal use of technology

Both nativity and generation determine cell phone use for latinos.

Nativity generally increases cell phone use, while the older the generation,

the more cell phone use decreases.

English proficiency is also a predictor of cell phone use for the 16 and up

age group 84% of those who are English dominant use cell phones, compared

with 76% of those who are bilingual and 69% of those who use primarily

Spanish. This reflects the importance of language as an indication of

assimilation, as well as the ability of the 16 and up age group to assimilate.

Hispanic males ages 16 and older are more likely than their female

counterparts to report using a cell phone. This may reflect some evidence of

persisting gender roles from Hispanic culture

Internet use follows generally the same outcomes as does cell phone use

between Latinos and Native borns.

CONCLUSION

Much of this evidence is clearly the product of

assimilation.

America is a nation based on speed and is thus

unconditionally absorbed in the technology

revolution. Disparities among Latinos and Native

borns in using technology can most likely be linked

back to cultural differences. American speed and

high-paced life stands somewhat opposed to

Hispanic culture, in many but not all cases.
