Improving Effective Written FeedbackChris Wray and Hanna Davies
Why?
• OFSTED:“What does the school need to do to improve further? Check students understanding and effectively guide their next steps both in lesson and through marking.”
• Breaking down barriers
• Improving training opportunities
Success Criteria
1. For the quality of effective feedback and marking to improve so that students feel empowered to make greater progress.
2. For staff to use more effective and creative methods of feedback.
3. To reduce staff workload whilst improving pupil progress.
What is effective feedback for pupils?
• Clear focus on next steps to progress.• Opens a dialogue with their teacher about
achievement and improvement.• Creative and engaging.
Teacher comment in book: “Good understanding, which method did you find easiest?”Pupils response: ”I understood this work today, I found it quite easy and Iwould like to try 2 digit by 3 digit or 3 digit by 3 digit(multiplication) I think it would be easier”. (KS2 Numeracy)
