Which energy is known as non- renewable energy !!

Energy obtained from sources that cannot be renewed are fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas, if these sources are used too much they will run out which is exactly what is happening today. If we think energy is a source for living then we should own them or afford to buy them.when we browse the causes of the wars, we see the main reason is to own the energy sources. So for this reason we have 2 options – we either find a new energy resource or use the fossil fuels slower than we are now.

What is Renewable Energy !!

Renewable energy is an energy that comes fromresources which are continually replenishedsuch as sunlight, wind, rain, waves, tides andgeothermal heat.Today many of the universities and privatecompanies are trying to impose their knowledgeon this particular subject to overcome the factsthat humans had to face at the end.

Place on Earth..

Page 5: Research and Application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources

Isparta province and region, due to the Mediterranean climate zone, are very lucky in terms of renewable energy sources such

as biomass and solar energy.

For this reason Süleyman Demirel University’s Research and application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources was found to

determine the renewable energy potential firstly in our region.

Research for developing technologies to utilize the renewable energies of this region and all country is the main object of our

centre.

Page 6: Research and Application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources

Our main Objectives and social responsibilities

• Is to determine the potential of renewable and clean energy sources in the region and across the country.

• By the use of these sources we make research and developments for application of clean energy production technologies.

• Develop an interdisciplinary collaboration of researchers in the university for the purpose of technology development.

• To teach the students research and development methods and to gain awareness.

• To create energy policies both in national and international level.

Our ProjectsIn order to sustain social responsibility and correlation with our students and academic staff we put forth some projects since the

beginning.

Page 8: Research and Application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources

One of them is ;Solar Energy Research

Page 9: Research and Application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources

Why solar energy is important ?

• Before you can understand why solar energy is important you should have a good idea of what solar energy is. Solar energy is produced by the sun. It can be harnessed like any other type of energy and used to create electricity to run homes and businesses. Buildings can also be heated by the thermal energy produced by the sun. Best of all, solar energy is free and does not compromise the environment.

• If you have ever gotten in a warm car on a sunny winter day, you have experienced the thermal energy of the sun. The sun's rays move through the glass of the car and warm the interior, although it may be quite chilly outside. Likewise, some people have actually baked cookies on the dashboard of their car on hot summer days. Again, thermal energy is being used.

• In order to harness the energy from the sun and turn it into electricity, it is necessary to have solar cells to collect and transform solar energy into useable electricity. These cells are typically in the form of panels that face the direction of the sun to capture the most rays possible.

The other one is; Solar Chimney

• The purpose of building solar chimney is to supply hot air.

Page 11: Research and Application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources

Solar Chimey can be designed for houses…!!

Page 12: Research and Application Centre for Renewable Energy Resources

Why is it important ?A Solar chimney can serve many purposes. • Direct gain warms air inside the chimney causing it to rise out the top

and drawing air in from the bottom. (This drawing of air can be used to ventilate a home or office, to draw air through a geothermal heat exchange, or to ventilate only a specific area such as a composting toilet.)

• Natural ventilation can be created by providing vents in the upper level of a building to allow warm air to rise by convention and escape to the outside. At the same time cooler air can be drawn in through vents at the lower level.

Trees may be planted on that side of the building to provide shade for cooler outside air.

And the next one is;Solar tower control systems

• Purpose of building a solar tower is to suppy electric power.

High power

During the last few years, considerable research efforts have been directed at Institutions towards development of high-concentration, high-temperature solar energy systems. This included optical methods and devices, thermal receivers for solar thermal electricity generation, and thermo-chemical processes for solar energy storage and solar fuel production. Some of these efforts are now mature enough for transfer to industry, and programs are starting to affect the transfer and upscale the new technologies to commercial levels.

Sustainable transport…

Development of high-concentration and high-temperature solar energy systems causes to develop electric motors for hybrid vehicles such as;• Two wheeled and cycle-type vehicles.• Heavy vehicles• Rail transport• Ships• Aircrafts

The forth one is;Clean Energy Houses

The main objective of this project, is to maintainsustainability of more livable homes byProviding cleanness and greenness.

Renewable energy for your home and property…!!

• Generate your own energyA direct way of using renewable energy is to install renewable energy generating equipment like solar panels or small wind turbines• Design for renewable energyWhen building a new home or remodeling an existing one, pay attention to details such as passive solar design (taking advantage of the sun's ability to heat the house in winter simply by proper house orientation and window sizing), roof overhangs (which can be designed to keep the sunlight out in summer and let it shine in during the winter), daylighting (allowing the sun to provide much of the home's lighting needs during the day).• Make the most of sun and the wind. For example, we can reduce our reliance on electricity and other fuels by trying our hand at solar cooking, drying our clothes outside, even using the sun's energy to make tea! • Buy green powerIf you have a choice of electricity providers, choose a provider that emphasizes their commitment to renewable energy.• Make your home energy efficient. One of the most important benefits of renewable energy is that it generates electricity with little or no pollution. We can also reduce pollution by simply reducing our own energy requirements by conserving energy and making our homes more efficient. Examples of energy conservation measures are turning the lights off when we leave the room and installing programmable thermostats so we don't unnecessarily heat or cool our homes while we're not there.

Hot springs & Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy that encourages conservation of natural resources.According to the environmental protection agency, geo-exchange systems save homeowners 30–70 percent in heating costs, and 20–50 percent in cooling costs, compared to conventional systems.

District heating

Turkey is a rich country with hot springs, the town known as SANDIKLI which is near to our hometown has a system called teleheating or district heating for distributing heat generated in a centralized location for residential and commercial heating requirements such as space heating and water heating. The heat is often obtained from a cogeneration plant burning fossil fuels but increasingly biomass, although heat-only boiler stations, geothermal heating and central solar heating are also used.
