The awards have been established to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution our postgraduate students make to the research environment and the impact their research as in their chosen discipline and on the wider community. Regulations of the Award 2012: The awards will be known as the Wintec Postgraduate Research Excellence Awards and shall be awarded annually. There will be three awards made available to nominees from the following Wintec schools and programmes: School of Health - Master of Nursing School of Media Arts - BMA Honours and Master of Arts School of Sport and Exercise Science - BSpExSc – Honours and Master of Science (SpExSc) The total amount awarded will be NZD 2,000.00. A maximum of three awards will be granted as follows: 1 st place: NZD 900.00 2 nd place: NZD 600.00 3 rd place: NZD 500.00 The recipients of the award will be announced at the Postgraduate and Research Day on 23 rd October 2012. All nominees will be notified of the outcome at least two weeks prior to the event. Nomination forms should be completed by the relevant Programme Manager, in discussion with the student’s supervisor(s). Students cannot nominate themselves; however they should be informed of their nomination and will need to supply an abstract outlining their research project (no more than 1 page). Nominees for the Wintec Postgraduate Research Excellence Awards should meet the following characteristics: Characteristics Weighting External stakeholders expressed interest in the outcome/application of the research 15 % The research shows evidence of advanced knowledge about a specialist field of enquiry/professional practice 35 % The research generates new knowledge (may be demonstrated through the creation of a body of work) 35 % The candidate demonstrated consistent outstanding studentship and work ethic. The research output is consistent with the overall scholarship. 15 %

Background:

• Nominees should demonstrate the following criteria:

o Nominees must have been enrolled in and successfully completed the research

component (i.e. dissertation, thesis or research project at level 8 or 9) in either one of

the following programmes in the past year:

a) Master of Arts

b) Master of Nursing

c) Master of Science (Sport and Exercise Science)

d) Bachelor of Media Arts – Honours

e) Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science – Honours

o The three finalists may be asked to present their research at the Postgraduate and

Research Day in October 2012.

• Nominations from the Schools close on Tuesday, 31st

July 2012. All nomination forms

must be submitted to the Postgraduate Office, W Block, Wintec City Campus by 4 pm that

day.

• The Selection Panel will select the final award recipients. The Selection Panel will be made

up of Wintec’s Dean, the Manager Research and Development, the Director of Planning and

Enterprise, the Director Maori and the CE of the Wintec Foundation. The Selection Panel may

refrain from making a recommendation for these awards, if it finds no candidate(s) of

sufficient merit. The decision of the Selection Panel is final and no correspondence will be

entered into.

• Students and the schools will be notified of the outcome through the usual communication

channels, no later than two weeks prior to the event.

• The award money will be paid directly by Wintec to the successful recipient(s) by way of

cheque. Where possible, these cheques will be presented to the successful recipient(s) at the

Postgraduate and Research Day on 23rd

October 2012.

• By acceptance of this award, each recipient agrees to participate in publicity through Wintec.
