Request for Proposals (RFP) Landscape Architect for Patterson Boulevard Canal Parkway Project City of Dayton Office of Economic Development Issue Date: March 29, 2011 Due Date: April 29, 2011 The City of Dayton Office of Economic Development seeks a Landscape Architect (LA) in connection with The Patterson Boulevard Canal Parkway Project. The qualified LA will demonstrate experience in developing and designing cultural and interpretive elements, identifying quality plant material, and preparing accurate drawings and specifications. Overview of Patterson Boulevard Canal Parkway Project: Funded by the State of Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission, the Patterson Boulevard Canal Parkway Project will complete the north/south corridor for the emergent Ballpark District and link the Oregon Historic District, the Fifth Street Entertainment District, the three City parks (Cooper, Patterson Commons & Canal) that line Patterson Boulevard and connect to the Fifth Third Field and Riverscape. The Project will connect the past, present and future by installing historical signage that conveys the significance of the canal, illustrates the broader canal context, and describe the evolution of different transportation systems and their impact on the development of Dayton. The Project will include the installation of landscaping, new lighting, historical signage, sidewalks and crosswalks to promote pedestrian connections to the activities along the Parkway. The attached maps, developed by the City, outline the project geography as well as ideas for the cultural/interpretive program. Expected Outcomes of Associated with this RFP: The City of Dayton intends to utilize the product of this proposal to articulate a well-coordinated cultural experience to the Cultural Facilities Commission and the public through implementation of the Patterson Boulevard Canal Parkway Project. Project Components and Primary Deliverables: Preliminary Design Concepts Prepare up to two preliminary concepts that show the disposition and character of improvements. Ohio Cultural Facilities Review Once the City has reviewed and accepted Preliminary Concept, the LA will be available to review Concept with staff at the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission. Final Design Concept Prepare final Concept Construction Cost Estimate - Prepare two construction cost estimates. One estimate at Preliminary Design Concept and one with the Final Design Concept Drawings & Specs Prepare drawings and specifications to placed in the City prepared construction drawing. Meetings Specify number of meetings needed with City to complete project. Renderings Prepare color rendering of Final Concept

Items to be Furnished by the City: Base Drawings City Engineering Standards Recent Scaled Ariel Photo of the Area The Proposal should consist of the following:

1. LA’s Identification and Background Information

LA’s name, email address, postal address, contact name, telephone and fax numbers.

Identify all key personnel that comprise the project team.

Provide concise resumes of the key personnel responsible for the success of this project.

2. Qualifications and Experience of the LA

Provide a concise history of the LA.

Provide an overview of general capabilities and services.

Provide a detailed description of interpretive history projects completed by the LA. Include project location, period of employment, list of designers and fabricators that were part of the project team,

Provide a list of References for recently completed interpretive history projects. 3. Overview of How LA Will Complete Project Components and Primary Deliverables

Provide an overview of how the LA will approach and complete the project. 4. Timing

Summarize time needed to complete this project.

Identify project milestones.

Include techniques LA will put in place to assure schedule will be met.

5. Fee

Provide fee structure with breakdown of components and individual sites. The Proposal should include all the information requested above. The City of Dayton reserves the right to reject any and all proposals, issue subsequent Requests for Proposal, and/or select certain portions of the Proposal. It is to be understood and agreed that this Request For Proposal does not obligate the City of Dayton to pay any costs incurred by consultant in the preparation and submission of a proposal, or an oral interview, if conducted.
