UK has announced its new MFN tariff regime, the UK Global Tariff (UKGT) that replaced the EU’s Common External Tariff on 1st January 2021. We are in the process of examining the changes and would send a separate report on it.

16. Agri and Food Products The UK is a net importer of food and food products from the EU. UK produces about 25% of fruits and vegetables consumed in the country. UK imports more than 70% of its food from EU of approximately 40 billion Euros. In the recently announced UK Global Tariffs (UKGT) it has announced liberalization and reduction of tariffs in a number of these products, to be applicable from January 2021. In this light, a member of Agri and Food products from India could become competitive for exports to this high value market. However, they would have to comply with environmental, animal welfare and food safety standards.

On 13th September 2021, International Trade Secretary Liz Truss conversed with India’s Minster for Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal to discuss the scope and ambition for a UK-India free trade agreement following the close of the Department for International Trade’s public consultation. Both the ministers discussed the findings from the consultation and agreed the steps to get ready to launch negotiations later this year - including the start of a series of trade working groups from September 2021. These discussions between the UK and Indian Governments will help both sides better understand each other’s position on potential chapter areas in any trade deal including tariffs, standards, IP and data regulation. They also discussed the newly established Enhanced Trade Partnership, and confirmed their commitment to timely implementation of the market access package. Both ministers agreed that continuing to engage with the business community was vital throughout the forthcoming negotiations.

Mr. Virendra Kumar Patel had a deal with Mr. John Varghese for Supernatural materials or stones of old times/era and he had paid a total amount of Rs.7,00,000/. He has also stated that the cheques given as a security to him also got bounced when he deposited in the bank. Till date Mr.Virendra Kumar Patel has not received the supernatural materials or stones nor he got his money back. On September 15th 2021 we wrote to Mr. John Varghese requesting to look into the matter and settle the issue amicably with Mr Patel under intimation to us.

On Sept 17th Mr. John Varghese had replied that he would return the total amount of Rs 7,00,000/- by the end of September. We have forwarded Mr. John’s email to Mr. Patel.
