It is the clubs aim to

1. Maximise recreation and leisure opportunities for young people of the Yinnar & district community.

2. Promote, encourage and foster the games of Australian

football and netball within the community.

3. Provide an enjoyable, comfortable and safe environment

for all people associated with the club.

Presidents report Peter Quigley club president

The 1996 season presented a number of challenges to the club, all met with enthusiasm and significant success.

These challenges included: • Restoring financial stability, which has been achieved as detailed in the

enclosed financial statement • Increasing the participation rate at junior level, numbers have doubled in

1996 due to the success of Auskick and introduction of an under 11 team • Completion of the clubs social facilities with the opening of social room

extensions

O n field performance saw the under 15 football and B, C & D grade netball teams play off in finals, with D grade taking out a much coveted premiership.

The club recognised the outstanding efforts of a number of members through the awarding of life membership in 1996. Congratulations to Stan Illic, Leanne Hornibrook, Jenny Mills, Joanne Whitelaw and Louise Goldsborough who now join the honoured group of club life members.

It is somewhat difficult to thank all those that contribute to a club such as ours. The efforts of many enable the club to fulfil its primary objective of providing sport and recreation opportunities to the Yinnar and district community.

I would like to extend my appreciation to the following people and organisations for their outstanding support throughout the season: • Our sponsors headed by premier sponsor Yinnar Community Hotel Co-

Operative • The dedication of all committee members who worked tirelessly • The netball and football coaches, performing a key role that doesn't attract

the outstanding efforts of Trevor Sewell in the construction phase

If I have missed anyone, apologies. It is a difficult task to ensure that the vast number of people deserving recognition are mentioned.

The 1997 season will again present a number of challenges. A number of these will be: • Commencing an under 13 team in the Morwell Junior Football League • Continuing the essential task of a positive cash flow and clearing all debt • Ensuring all football and netball teams are given every opportunity to play at

their maximum potential and participate in the finals series • Reducing the work load of a number of people at the club, particularly some

committee members together with increasing the number assisting with club operations

Fortunately, this report was finalised after the recent AFL draft, giving the opportunity to recognise the outstanding achievement of former Yinnar player Brett Knowles being drafted to St. Kilda. Brett's drafting gives him the chance to play at the highest level possible, and as we know, Brett will make the absolute most of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Congratulations to Brett, also to parents Helen and Jeff who have provided much support and encouragement to Brett in his sporting pursuits.

Finally it's been my privilege to have been President of the club in 1996, particularly a club that has served the Yinnar community with great pride for 112 years.

Thanks to all for your support through the year, I a m certainly looking forward to 1997 with great enthusiasm as I am sure we all are.

Secretary's report

Brian Little club secretary

The 1996 season saw a challenge to be faced by our club. Financial problems, and the leaving of many senior players left our club in a rebuilding stage.

Our committee made hard decisions that unfortunately resulted in our on field performances being sacrificed. The plus to the decision allows our club to trade in a far healthier position in 1997.

I was fortunate to have a very organised and hard working committee and coaching panel. I would like to thank Peter Quigley, who made my job so much easier. I was fortunate enough to work with Rod Lucas, the secretary of the Mid Gippsland Football League and like Peter, Rod was always willing to help.

I would like to congratulate the following for receiving life memberships: Stan Illic, Leanne Hornibrook, Jenny Mills, Joanne Whitelaw and Louise Goldsborough.

The 1996 Season saw our under 15's represent the club in the finals, congratulations to Glen Cheffers and his team. Our netball girls also represented the club in the finals, with special congratulations going to D Grade for winning the premiership. Well done Leanne, Jenny and the girls.

Congratulations to Brett Knowles, who represented the VSFL under 18's competition and Mark Cheffers for being picked in the squad for Traralgon's VFL team.

I would like to thank Loreen for her support over the year.

Thanks to the Team Managers for the work they have done over the season: Greg Jones, Dean Cheffers, Brendan McCulloch and Steve Duffus. I would also like to thank the following for helping make my job as reserves team manager a lot less stressful: Russell Cheffers, Gordon Lont, Ian Hornibrook, Hamish Burslem, Danny Young and Lee Clarke.

My thanks also to Shane Quigley for his effort in organising Auskick and the starting of our under 11's.

I have enjoyed the past season, a lot of hard work has been done by everybody. Next year is another year and it will need as much work if not more than this year.

Financial statement

A closing balance of -$7769.69 was reported to the clubs 1995 annual general meeting. This did not take into account a number of unpaid bills and uncollected revenue. To ensure an accurate end of 1995 season figure was recorded, the committee chose to identify all 1995 income and expenditure as such in the 1996 accounts. The actual end of 1995 season balance was -$11507.28.

The committee is able to report a significant improvement in the clubs finances over the 1996 season, as indicated in the following financial statement.
