Purpose :

To describe the way things are, with

reference to a range natural, man made,

and social phenomenom in our

environment.

Generic Structure :

1) General ClassificationGeneral statements that describe the subject of a report, description, and

classification. [Pernyataan umum yang menerangkan subjek

laporan, keterangan, dan klasifikasinya.]

2) DescriptionTells what the phenomenon under discussion

; in terms of parts, qualities, habits or behaviors.

[Memberikan gambaran fenomena-fenomena yang terjadi, baik bagian-bagiannya, sifat-sifatnya,

kebiasaannya, ataupun tingkah lakunya.]

Grammatical Pattern :

Use of general nouns.Use of relating verbs to describe features.Use of action verbs when describing behaviours.Use of timeless present tense to indicate usualness.Use of technical terms.

Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.6 million light-years (2.5×1019 km) from Earth in the Andromeda constellation. It is also known as Messier 31, M31, or NGC 224, and is often referred to as the Great Andromeda Nebula. The Andromeda Galaxy is the nearest spiral galaxy to our galaxy (Milky Way), but not the closest galaxy overall. It gets its name from the area of the sky in which it appears, the Andromeda constellation, which was named after the mythological princess Andromeda. The Andromeda Galaxy is the largest galaxy of the Local Group. Although the largest, the Andromeda Galaxy may not be the most massive, as recent findings suggest that the Milky Way contains more dark matter and could be the most massive in the grouping.

Galaksi Andromeda adalah galaksi spiral sekitar 2,6 juta tahun cahaya (2,5 × 1019 km) dari Bumi di konstelasi Andromeda. Ia juga dikenal sebagai Messier 31, M31, atau NGC 224, dan sering disebut sebagai Nebula Andromeda Besar. Galaksi Andromeda adalah galaksi spiral terdekat dengan galaksi kita (Bima Sakti), tetapi tidak galaksi terdekat secara keseluruhan. The 2006 observations by the Spitzer Space Telescope revealed that M31 contains one trillion (1012) stars: at least twice the number of stars in our own galaxy, which is estimated to be 200–400 billion. The Andromeda Galaxy is estimated to be 7.1×1011solar masses. The Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way are expected to collide in perhaps 4.5 billion years.

At an apparent magnitude of 3.4, the Andromeda Galaxy is notable for being one of the brightest Messier objects, making it visible to the naked eye on moonless nights even when viewed from areas with moderate light pollution. Although it appears more than six times as wide as the full Moon when photographed through a larger telescope, only the brighter central region is visible to the naked eye or when viewed using binoculars or a small telescope.

Galaksi Andromeda diperkirakan 7,1 × 1011 massa matahari. Galaksi Andromeda dan Bima Sakti diperkirakan akan bertabrakan dalam mungkin 4,5 miliar tahun.Pada magnitudo tampak sebesar 3,4, Galaksi Andromeda adalah penting karena salah satu objek Messier terang, sehingga terlihat dengan mata telanjang di malam tak berbulan bahkan bila dilihat dari daerah dengan polusi cahaya moderat. Meskipun muncul lebih dari enam kali selebar Bulan penuh saat difoto melalui teleskop yang lebih besar, hanya wilayah tengah cerah terlihat dengan mata telanjang atau ketika dilihat menggunakan teropong atau teleskop kecil.
