The Department of Computer Science and Applications, St. Peter’s Institute of Higher
Education and Research, conducted two days National conference on Recent Trends & Technologies
in Soft Computing on 5th and 6
th July 2019. Dr. R. Latha, Prof. & Head welcomed the gathering to the
11th National Conference and introduced the chief guest to the audience. Dr. T. Lasya Trustee
congratulated the Head of the department and staff for conducting the two day National conference in
her address. She stressed the importance of Research to the student and staff. Dr. Francis C. Peter,
Vice-Chancellor delivered the Presidential address. Dr. S. Gunasekaran Dean (R&D), SPIHER and
Major Dr. M. Venkatramanan, Dean (Arts and Science & Management and Studies) delivered the
felicitation address. Mr. S. Aravindhan, Delivery Project Executive, IBM India Pvt. Ltd, was the chief
guest. He has mentioned about the Industry 4.0, the future scope of IT industry and how Internet of
Things will change the entire world with the help of Deep Learning and Machine Learning. He also
advised the students to follow 4 rules as life lessons.
Dr. K. Kavitha, Assoc. Prof.(CSE), Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering &
Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana gave lecture on fuzzy logics in Artificial Intelligence in the
following session.
On the second day Mr. .S. Sathish, Associate Manager, Application Development, Accenture
Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Chennai and Mr.S.Srinivasan, Managing Director, Huron Consulting from
Bangalore gave a lecture on Machine Learning, Deep Learning and about Software Paradigms in IT
Projects respectively.
Nearly 30 scholars presented papers in the Technical sessions. Certificates were distributed to
the presenters by our Dean(AS & MS) in the valedictory function.

CyberTech Club Inauguration
The department of Computer Science and Applications has inaugurated a student forum
called “CyberTech Club” on 09th
August, 2019 for the students of the same. The club was inaugurated in the
presence of Major Dr. M. Venkataramanan, Dean(AS & MS) and chief guest Mr. B. Manikandan, Hr
Manager, Vajro Softwares. The Compering was done by Mr. J. Mohammed Haroon of III BCA and Ms. K.
Barakath Nisha of II BSc CS. The inauguration function started by Tamizh thai vazhthu. Mr. S. A. Lalith
Kumar, III BSc CS, gave the welcome address. Ms. P. Hema Shalini, III BCA presented about the club and
its responsibilities. The chief guest was honored by a memento. The presidential address was given by our
Dean and congratulated the department. Ms. R. HemaLatha of III BCA introduced about the chief guest. The
investiture ceremony was done in which students’ representatives were selected and badges were distributed.

The students had taken oath that they would be a role model to fellow students and will
uphold the loyalty to the traditions and ethos of the university. The chief guest, Mr. B. Manikandan, gave the
inaugural address. He gave idea about the IT sector and also told one has to do hard work to achieve one’s
goal. He also stressed the importance and responsibility of a student. Mr. A. Sam Wesley Peter of III BCA
presented the working of different kinds of robots.
This was followed by paper presentation with the hot topics of technologies. Prizes were
distributed for the participants by Dr. R. Latha, Hod, CSA, SPIHER. The vote of thanks was proposed by
Mr. P. Vanesh of III BSc CS. The function was ended by National Anthem.

ONAM CELEBRATION on 10/09/2019
FLOWER/SALT RANGOLI COMPETETION

On behalf of Onam celebration, flower/ salt Rangoli competition was conducted for
SPIHER girls’ students by the department of Computer Science & Applications. The competition
was held at Main block which started by 11.00 am and comprised of 12 teams. Each team
consisted of 5 participants. The students were very enthusiastic. The time duration was 90
minutes.
There were two judges- Dr. S. Pushpa, Prof. of Computer Science and Engineering,
SPIHER and Ar. P. Kanimozhi, Prof. of Architecture, SPIHER. Marks were given based on
various criteria and three places were announced. First place was given to II Bcom, Second place
to II BE BioMedical and third to I BSc. Microbilogy. It was announced that cash prizes for the
winners will be given on Women’s day.
The participants were happy in the presence of Dr. T. Lasya, Trustee, SPIHER , Dr. L.
Mahesh Kumar, Academic Director, SPIHER, Dr. S. Ramachandra Moorthy, Director (R & D),
SPIHER, Major Dr. M. Venkataramanan, Dean (AS & MS), Dr. K. V. Narayanan, Dean (Engg.),
SPIHER. A group photo was taken with all the dignitaries, participants and other students.

NAVARATHRI CELEBRATIONS 2019

The department of Computer Science and Applications celebrated Navarathri by keeping Golu. Many
dolls were set on three steps at the department which were brought by students and faculty members with love.
The steps were decorated by dolls, serial lights and flowers. Kolam was put in front of golu at department
entrance.
The celebration started on 03th October, 2019 in the presence of Dr. P. Dananjeyan , Vice Chancellor, SPIHER,
Dr. L. Mahesh Kumar, Academic Director, SPIHER, Major Dr. M. Venkataramanan, Dean (AS &
MS),SPIHER, Dr. K.V. Narayanan, Dean (Engg.), SPIHER. Mangala Harathi was performed and slokhas were
recited. Many varieties of sweets and sundal were kept for neivedyam. On the second day of celebrations, Dr.
A. Bright Rathinam, Principal, Vailankanni Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Dr. S. Gunasekaran, Dean(R & D),
SPIHER and Major Dr. M. Venkataramanan, Dean (AS & MS), SPIHER, sighted our golu. All the department
faculty members and students were invited. There were many visitors on all the three days and thamboolam and
prasadams were given to them.

REMEMBARANCE OF MARTYRS’ DAY

“The day dedicated to those whose each breathe was for country Whose heartbeats had
one name "India" Who lived for the country Who died for the country...!! Salute to those entire
Martyrs' out there...!! “
On behalf of Martyrs’ day, the department of computer science and applications
showed their respect for sacrifices and gallant efforts made by Indians for the pride and honour
of nation. The day is observed in the memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for
India’s Freedom. Martyrs’ Day is also a day to salute the martyrdom of soldiers who lost their
lives defending the sovereignty of the nation.
The day was observed by a Special Assembly to mark the occasion of Martyrs
Day by the students and faculty members of CSA department. Nearly 400 students were
gathered in the corridor. Students were holding the plough cards in the memory of freedom
fighters.
Dr. L. Mahesh Kumar, Registrar, SPIHER addressed the gathering. Mr. K. Karan
Kumar of I BCA ‘A’ orated about the history of Mahatma Gandhi and sung a song. Ms. R.
Deepika of I BCA ‘A’ gave a deep speech on how the assassination of gandhiji took place. This
was followed by the observing two minutes silence at 11 AM.
