    CONCRETING EQUIPMENTS

    Concreting equipments are those equipments which are used for manufacturing, transporting

    and for construction purposes

    TYPES OF CONCRETING EQUIPMENTS

    1 .Production equipments:-These are the equipments which are used in manufacturing of

    concrete.

    Eg:-concrete pumps.

    2. Transportation equipments:_These are the equipments which are used for effective

    placing and transportion of concrete.

    Eg:-wheel barrows, transit mixers.

    3. Mixing equipments:-These are the equipments which are used for mixing the concrete to

    form a homogeneous mixture.

    Eg:-concrete mixers ,concrete grinders.

    4 .Compacting equipments:-These are the equipments which are used for compacting the

    soil to the desired limit to increase the shear strength of soil.

    Eg:-vibrators.

    CONCRETE PUMPS

    y Concrete pumps are those equipments which are used for pumping liquid into the surface.y These are used mainly for high elevated structures.y It can also be used for long span beams.

    There are mainly two types of pumps:-

    y The first type of concrete pump is attached to atruck. It is known as a trailer-mountedboomconcrete pump because it uses aremote controlledarticulatingroboticarm (calledaboom) to place concrete with pinpoint accuracy. Boom pumps are used on most of the largerconstruction projects as they are capable of pumping at very highvolumeand because of the laboursaving nature of the placing boom. They are a revolutionary alternative to truck-mounted concrete

    pumps.

    y The second main type of concrete pump is either mounted on a truck and known as a truck-mounted concrete pump or placed on atrailer, and it is commonly referred to as aline pumportrailer-mounted concrete pump. This pump requiressteelorrubber concrete placinghosesto bemanually attached to the outlet of the machine. Those hoses are linked together and lead to

    wherever the concrete needs to be placed. Line pumps normally pump concrete at lower volumes

    than boom pumps and are used for smaller volume concrete placing applications such asswimmingpools and single family home concrete slabs and most ground slabs.

    This figure shows a foldable concrete pump which is used now a days at the

    site since it is beneficial and affordable.

    In this type of concrete pump the pump is installed in the truck and it is used at

    the site according to the requirements and hence can be folded at the site

    after the use thus reducing the consumption of space and effectively can be

    taken to the other place where it is required.

    CONCRETE MIXER

    1 .A concrete mixer is a device that combines cement, aggregate(fine and coarse) and water to

    form a homogeneous dense mixture.

    2. A typical concrete mixer uses a revolving drum to mix the components.

    3. Concrete portable mixers are often used for smaller volume works.

    This figure shows a half bag concrete mixer which can be used by hand and was used in the

    traditional days before.

    There are mainly four types of concrete mixers.

    1.Rotating non tilting type mixers:-In this type of mixer the drum rotates around the loading

    skip which is pulled up or lowered by means of a wire rope and pulley movement.the discharge

    chute at the other end unloads the mix when it is manually dropped to allow the mixed

    concrete to drop.These have higher capacities than tilting pipe.

    2.Rotating tilting type:-in this type of mixer the drum is conical and revolved around an inclined

    axis.the mixing is carried at an angle of 20-30 degrees. It is charged by means of skip.

    3.Pan type:-in this type of mixer the drum is stationary or free running with the blades rotating

    around the vertical axis.these mixers are very efficient as mixing process is very faster and

    spraying of water is very uniform.

    4.Paddle type:-the paddle mixers consist of a cylindrical non rotating open through in which

    materials are mixed by paddles rotating around the horizontal axis on one or two shafts.

    CONCRETE BATCHERS

    The measurement of material for making concrete is known as batching.

    There are two types of batchers:

    1. Volumetric batcher.

    2. Weigh batcher.

    VOLUMETRIC BATCHER

    1 .Volumetric batcher: Volumetric batching is not a good method for proportioning the material

    because of the difficulty it offers to measure granular material in terms of volume.

    For volumetric batching it is convenient to make steel or wooden boxes of convenient sizes and

    volumes. The volume of one bag is taken as 35 litres. These boxes are used for measuring fine

    and course aggregates.

    This figure shows a concrete volumetric batcher.

    This batching is not efficient as the materials are measured in terms of volume.so now a days

    weigh batching is used.

    WEIGH BATCHER

    Weigh type of batching is preferred. In this type of batching all the ingredients of concrete are

    weighed in the given proportion in weigh batcher. The head load of material is dumped into theweighing pans by the workers. This type of dumping causes an impact at regular intervals on

    the weighing mechanism.

    Care is also taken to ensure that the workers dump one type of aggregate in the weighing pan

    at a time.

    TRANSIT MIXERS

    Special concrete trucks are used to mix the concrete at the site.

    The interior of the drum is fixed with a spiral blade.

    In one rotation the concrete is pushed into the drum and this is direction where

    concrete is to be discharged. When concrete is produced from batching plant it is

    generally produced by transit mixers. The transit mixers are truck mounted having

    a capacity of 4 to 7 m^3.

    The above figure shows the transit mixer which can be used to transfer the materials to the

    site.

    These equipments are very effective as the mixing process can also be carried out during the

    transportation process.

    In construction of 50 km compound wall setting up of a batching plant even at the centre of the

    site would not be effective and economical. At that time transit mixers can be used to mix the

    concrete during transportation itself and transport to the required site thus providing the

    economy as well as space.

    WHEEL BARROWERS

    A wheel barrow is a small hand-propelled vehicle, usually with just one wheel designed

    to push the ancient wheelbarrow by wind.

    It is designed to distribute the weight of load between the wheel and the operator.

    Convenient carriage of heavier and bulkier loads is possible with wheel barrow.

    For long distance transportation concrete may get segregated. To avoid segregation

    wheel barrows provided with shock absorbers.

    The above figure shows the diagram of a wheel barrow which can be used for transferring the

    materials to the required position. Since it is equipped with a roller support is is quite

    convenient method of transportation for smaller volume works.

    The other means of transportation are chute, skip and hoist, crane bucket and ropeway and

    belt conveyors which can be used accordingly to serve the purpose.

    VIBRATORS

    The process of removal of entrapped air and uniform placement of concrete to form

    homogeneous dense mass is known as compaction.

    Vibration is one of the processes to carry out vibration for uniform settlement of thesoil particles.

    Compaction is required to improve the shear strength of the soil.

    The presence of even 5percent voids may reduce in the strength of soil by about30

    percent.

    Compaction can be carried out by vibration, pressure and jolting, spinning.

    Vibration is carried out by :-

    1 .Needle vibrators:-These are widely used in construction industry such as dimensionaccuracies , corrosion resistance , high operational fluency and for longer services.

    These are manufactured with high quality materials.

    VIBRATING BEAMS

    *Interchangeable bottom plates make this light finishing beam versatile.

    VIBRATING SCREEDS

    A wide choice of compaction beams with the BM/BR double vibrating beams and BT90

    modular screeds, combined with BV finishing beams (single or twin-handle) .

    Double and finishing beams are electrically or petrol driven.

    The modular screeds are available as pneumatic, electrically or petrol driven.

    CONCRETE POWER TROVELS

    1. BG221 power trowels cover most of the trovelling applications.

    2. The BG21 power trovels edge up to the double ride-on trowels.

    3. Both petrol and electric versions are available for all single trowels.

    CONCRETE POKER VIBRATOR

    Especially designed for medium to high slum concrete the range consists of three different

    diameters 40, 50, 60 mm.

    With a light weight aluminium switch box, it is easy to operate with one hand.

    The above figure shows the sketch of a poker vibrator which can be used for light and medium

    slum.

    CONCRETE GRINDERS :-

    1. Combined diameter 350/450 mm in one machine.

    2 .Equipped with a 13 hp Honda petrol engine or a 7 hp Lombargini diesel engine.

    3. A fork-watering device, i.e constant cooling of the diamond disk on both sides,

    improved evacuation of dust and waste while in operation.

    The above comparison chart shows the five different products of DYNAPAC company.

    For our project I would prefer to useHBT80S-16 because it can handle more amount of pressure

    as well as delivery distance is more and overall weight is more for this pump.
