DEAR COLLEAGUEThank you for being a part of the inaugural 2017 GSMA Mobile World Congress, inPartnership with CTIA, in San Francisco.

In its first year, Mobile World Congress Americas welcomed 21,171 unique attendees from 109countries and territories across the world. Fifty-eight percent of attendees held senior-levelroles, including more than 2,400 CEOs, and women represented 20 percent of Mobile WorldCongress Americas attendees.

With nearly 40 hours of content and more than 200 speakers, the Mobile World CongressAmericas conference program highlighted themes including networks, platforms, consumerIoT, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, content and media, public policy and sustainability.Keynote sessions featured CEOs and senior executives from a range of leadingorganizations, including 6Sense, América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Enterprises, CTIA, Essential,FCC, Mighty Networks, Mozilla Foundation, Nokia, Pandorabots, PayPal, Qualcomm, SanFrancisco 49ers, Sprint, Unity, UPS and Verizon Wireless.

Leading companies across the ecosystem and adjacent industry sectors highlighted theirproducts, technologies and services through exhibition and hospitality at the MosconeCenter in San Francisco. The main exhibition, with more than 1,000 companies occupying280,299 square feet, provided attendees the opportunity to conduct business, network andexperience the latest industry trends. Additionally, more than 340 media and industryanalysts attended the event to report on and evaluate the industry developmentsshowcased at Mobile World Congress Americas.

Several fixtures at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and Mobile World CongressShanghai also featured in San Francisco. In the GSMA Innovation City, attendeesexperienced how mobile-connected products and services are improving the daily lives ofcitizens and businesses around the world, in diverse areas such as home, automotive,health, utilities, industrial and more. The 4YFN (4 Years From Now) Startup Eventspotlighted today’s entrepreneurs and innovators, with over 140 startups from countriessuch as Colombia, South Korea, Spain, and the United States participating. Designed toaddress the persistent gender gap in the industry, the Women4Tech program also had astrong Americas debut, offering attendees a range of programs and activities spanning thethree-day event.

CONFERENCE ATTENDEESThe Conference at Mobile World Congress Americas featured thought-provoking presentations from someof the mobile industry’s most influential executives. They shared their visions of the mobile industry to theattendees while providing essential insights on current and future trends. The conference programcontained 35 hours of content and 37 sessions in which attendees had the ability to explore the keyindustry trends and themes impacting the mobile market in the Americas.

4YFN Startup EventThis year, Mobile World Congress Americas introduced the 4YFN Startup Event to San Francisco. 4YFN has beenworking with Mobile World Congress for the past four years in Barcelona and Shanghai and due to the successand support for startups, it premiered at Mobile World Congress Americas this September.

For the first edition of MWC Americas, 4YFN brought in over 142 startups from around the world and presented anumber of activities involving startups, investors and mentors to the startup community in Silicon Valley.In addition, 4YFN helped 100+ investors connect with each other from different international markets, whilediscovering together the most promising startups from each ecosystem.

Women4TechBuilding on a successful launch at MobileWorld Congress Barcelona, GSMA broughtthe Women4Tech program to Mobile WorldCongress Americas. Focused on addressingand reducing the gender gap in the mobileindustry, Women4Tech features three daysof in-depth analysis of topics shapinggender diversity. Women4Tech focused onincreasing the inclusion of women in themobile industry and supports the UNSustainable Development Goals, particularlySDG #5 (Gender Equality).

The Women4Tech SummitThe Women4Tech Summit featured a combination of keynotespeakers and panel discussions centered on four key themes:Empowering, Encouraging, Transforming and Innovation. TheSummit sessions addressed issues relating to equality andcareer development, mentorship and youth education,communications and business verticals, and entrepreneurshipand start-ups.

Women4Tech ToursThe Women4Tech Tours were guided by industry experts whohelped attendees explore through the mobile ecosystem andintroduced them to the exhibitors while allowing networkingwith fellow Women4Tech attendees. These tours included theIoT Tour, Retail & Digital Commerce Tour and the Women4TechPower of Diversity Tour.

Women4Tech Speed Coaching & NetworkingThe Women4Tech Speed Coaching & Networking gave attendeesa fresh perspective on how to set effective career goals, enhanceleadership skills and cultivate professional opportunities. Thisexperience provided an opportunity to increase networkingamong other professionals in the industry.

GSMASummitsThe GSMA Summits at Mobile WorldCongress Americas explored and covered awide range of perspectives across the mobileindustry. From start-ups to Virtual Reality,Summits provide an avenue for discussionsthat seek to enhance the industry.

Augmented Reality and VirtualReality in the Enterprise SummitAugmented Reality and Virtual Reality in theEnterprise Summit explored the potential ofaugmented reality and virtual reality forapplications beyond gaming andentertainment, in sectors such asmanufacturing, medicine, automotive,education, industrial, workplace and beyond.

The Latin America Investment SummitThe Latin America Investment Summit took a deep dive intostart-ups, innovation and investment opportunities in the LatinAmerica mobile ecosystem.

The China – US Innovation and Investment SummitThe China – US Innovation and Investment Summit examined arange of topics driving innovation and investment in theChinese mobile market, including developments in areas suchas 5G and IoT, as well as high-growth tech segments such asmicroprocessors, drones and automotive.

The Connected Vehicles SummitThe Connected Vehicles was the meeting point for attendees todiscuss the evolution of the vehicle from a tool to get frompoint A to B, to a source of connectivity and services for thedriver and passenger.

Sunrise 5k Run215 runners took place in the official Mobile WorldCongress Americas Sunrise 5k Run. This run tookrunners through the waterfront past remarkable SanFrancisco sights, including AT&T Park (home of the SanFrancisco Giants, The Bay Bridge, The Ferry Building,The Marina harbor, The Embarcadero waterfront, LeftyO’Doul Bridge, San Francisco Piers, and Mission Creek.
