Conservation Notes (Sharon Gershoni, 2011)
1) The Condition of the diary
The book cover had tears in the leather made spine.No pages missing‐ all signatures wre .Pages were clean and neat with no tears in the edges.
2) Conservation work on the book
A) Cleaning the (horse) glue off the spine with wheat paste and resewing the signatures.End papers (Ingres paper) were sewn to the text block with hinges of Moriki paper that was dyed with acryl colors to match the black book spine. The spine was strengthened with multiple laters of Japanese paper ranging in strength (Tengucho, Kizukishi, Sekishi, Okawara)
C) The back of cover was mended by lifting the leather from the front and back boards with a paring knife, and inserting underneath it moriki paper (dyed with acrylic colors to match the black leather spine). The text block was Hit to the cover, and strengthened by the Moriko paper hinges
