Hello I'm an addict Tim as well as your outgoing RCM. I would like to thank you all for the opportunity to be of service To this body for the past three years as both your RCM and RCM-ALT. I have learned a lot about myself in recovery and the service body At the AL-SASK REGION. I would recommend to anybody who is looking for more recovery than where they currently are at to try a position, RCM-ALT, and see the magic that happens at another level in service. I would also like to endorse our current RCM-ALT to be nominated for the RCM as I have watched him grow into him position And feel that he is well prepared to fill the position. As I have been suggested by my sponsor to try and leave any service position Better than when you took it over I feel that I have accomplished that and know that our current RCM-ALT has already surpassed What I have accomplished, Thanks Troy. Again thank you to all members of this service body both past and present for your mentorship in my recovery. However my Service commitment is not over, as I have accepted the vice-chairperson position at the regional table, so I'm still going to be involved only at a different level of service . This is again a two year term with the knowledge that I possibly will be nominated for The Chairperson's position once I have completed my current term. That's all for me so I now turn our attention to your RCM-ALT for the Regional report. THANK YOU ALL.

Introduction

Hello everyone my name is Troy and I am an addict as well as your RCM-ALT. The Regional

Service Committee met from September 28th-30th in Lloydminster. There is a lot of information to

cover so I will be splitting my report into two.

Open Positions

There are still a few positions open at Region though we did elect several members. Pat L was

elected as Regional Chair, Tim R was elected as Regional Vice Chair, Chad B was elected as

Regional Delegate and Kim was elected as secretary. Positions open for nomination are RD-ALT

and PR chair.

Literature Discount

We brought forth the idea of making Regional literature orders to save money as was discussed at

our last ASC. With the rough dollar amounts for literature orders the RCM’s in attendance were

able to provide it was determined that we would fall well short of the 80,000 dollars needed for

the discount.

ARCNA

We have ratified Sam B as the convention chair for ARCNA XXXII to be held at the Nitehawk

adventure park just outside of Grand Prairie on the proposed dates of August 30th to September 1

2019

We were again asked if the Chinook area would host the regional convention in 2020 as we are

next in the rotation after the Peace area. This does not have to be held in Calgary, it can be

hosted anywhere in the Chinook area, please spread the word that we are looking for a

convention chair.

Membership Survey

Anyone not here last month the NA membership survey is still available to be completed. It is a

quick 5 minute anonymous survey, the data collected is used to provide info about our fellowship

to the public and to learn more about how and where we carry our message of recovery. GSR’he

link to the survey is www.na.org/survey

Oct 19th-21st. Registration is available at www.canadianconvention.com

o WCNA 37, 2018 had a remarkable attendance of over 20, 000 recovering addicts.

WCNA 38, 2021 to be hosted in Melbourne, Australia.

o CANAs NA Public Service Announcement (PSA) TV campaign in French and

English ran again on late night spots in June through August 2018 on Global TV

and APTN.

o 2018 CANA work projects will be reset in October, and this year’s workgroups that

are coming to an end include translations of IP#1 into Inuktitut and Northern

James Bay Cree. A PSA Facebook ad campaign (completed and online – check out

Narcotics Anonymous Canada on Facebook), Outreach to Northern and remote

communities, How To videos for service bodies on how to run a web meeting

(unfortunately did not come to fruition yet), and connecting with National

Professional organizations including Corrections Canada, Health Canada,

Indigenous & Northern Affairs.

o The World Service Conference (WSC) 2018 has implemented new committee

support materials including consensus-based decision making processes

(Consensus Based Decision Making), convention programming and convention

budgeting. You can find materials on na.org under Local Member resources.

o There are now three IDTs selected for the 2018-20 cycle moving forward, they are:

• Attracting members to service

• Carrying the NA message and making NA attractive

• Drug Replacement Therapy (DRT) and Medically-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and

NA

NAWS and the World Board are in the process of developing session outlines,

PowerPoint’s and handouts for these topics. Materials will be posted on na.org

(For our Members > Issue Discussions) as soon as they are ready.

PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

October 2018

Area Service Report

Howdy Trusted Servants

Our Subcommittee meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, 7:00pm – 8:00pm @ the First Baptist Church

(1311 4th St., Calgary). We welcome anyone interested to come visit.

Chair Report:

With the hopes of bringing awareness to users of the site, as a new initiative, we will have a table from

6:00pm – 8:00pm on the last Friday/month in the Sheldon Chumir Lobby. The dates of the pilot are October

26, November 30 and December 28. (Please stop by and say HI). We will evaluate the project in January to

determine if we continue, expand or shut it down.

We hope to be able to grow this into a larger project, possibly having a regular presence at other such public

sites. For now, we are asking for support from members with 1 year or more to help carry our message. If you

are able to assist, please reach out to one of the committee members (Myself, Dave R., Rob B. and Ron K.).

The next initiative we are undertaking is a Secret Facebook page. (Secret means “anonymous” to the public.

Posts cannot be seen by anyone outside the group. Posts cannot be shared out of the group, nor can external

posts be shared within the group. Members need to be invited into the group as it cannot be located by any

search. It will be moderated by the PR Committee members to ensure Traditions are not violated.

The committee has been working with the page to determine how everything works. Once we have

confidence in the operations, we will go “live” and start inviting members.

This page would work in conjunction with the website, allowing for a more real-time communication of our

fellowship’s events. Ideas for posting to the page could be: XXXX Meeting will be closed tonight. XXXX Meeting

needs a chairperson to open tonight. XXXX will be having their X year cake meeting this Thursday at XXXX

Meeting. XXXX Committee needs a secretary for this coming monthly meeting. “Who is going to the XXXX

event this Friday night?”. Etc. It is a very exciting tool to introduce and hope our fellowship embraces it so we

can become stronger as a result.

Meeting List Report:

865 Meeting lists ordered. Dave R. was reimbursed $168.64 ($150.05 for printing plus $18.59 for postage).

Phone Line Report:

The NA phone continues to be slow, averaging less than a call a day. The amount of spam and fraudulent calls,

usually originating from United States area codes, continues.

Thank you for your service.
