Replace the Ubuntu Plymouth Boot Screen with an XBMC oneJanuary 12, 2012 Scott Howell Leave a comment Go to comments
So you have setup and installed XBMCLive to your HTPC and you have the purple Ubuntu boot screen,ever thought you could make it look a bit more relevant to your XBMC install.Well now you can by installing a pretty XBMC one. Found this info a while ago and thought I wouldshare it with you all. So lets get started on making the boot up of your XBMC machine so much nicer.
NOTE: The below may break the plymouth boot screen completely and I will not be held responsiblefor any of the below doing so, as this is information I have found to work for my system.

To install the XBMC boot screen logo, enter the following via the console by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1 orSSHing to your box:
sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install plymouth-label v86dsudo wget http://excyle.nl/plymouth-theme-xbmc-logo.debsudo dpkg -i plymouth-theme-xbmc-logo.deb
Now we need to change the default GRUB config to use a higher resolution. Please ensure that your videocard can handle this resolution otherwise this will not work.You can change this if you like also.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
Once this is open you need to add the below in blue at the end of the line withGRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT and GRUB_GFXMODE:Press Ctrl + X to exit then press Y to save.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet...level=0video=uvesafb:mode_option=1366x768-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap"GRUB_GFXMODE=1366x768
Now we need to update the Initramfs-Module:
sudo nano /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
Add the below to the last line of this file:
uvesafb mode_option=1366x768-24 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap
Lastly we need to edit the splash file to enable the FrameBuffer:
sudo nano /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
Enter the below into this file:
FRAMEBUFFER=y
Finally update GRUB and initramfs to use the new files that have been changed:
sudo update-grubsudo update-initramfs -u
Reboot to see your brand new Boot Screen:
sudo reboot
It should have gone from the purple Ubuntu one to the new black and silver XBMC one.
I hope this has helped to make your XBMC machine nice and flashy
