Repent  @ The throne of grace

Let us then fearlessly,

and confidently and boldly

draw near to the to the throne of grace,

(the throne of God’s unmerited favour to us sinners)that we may receive mercy (for our failures)

and find grace to help in good time for every need

[appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it ]. Heb. 4:16 (Amplified)

Confession that is genuine and comes from the heart is precious in the sight of our God. He will not despise

a broken and a contrite heart. (Ps. 51:17)

The concept of prayer is strange to people who have not experienced the wonder of it yet. Maybe you are

one of them and think in your heart that you can’t pray. Well, prayer should be a very natural thing to do,

because it is talking to your Creator, the One who knows everything about you. He has so much mercy togive, He is earnestly waiting for us to come and ask for it.

1. How should we approach that throne?

There is no need for us to be timid or feel unworthy, no!

2. Who may come to the throne of grace?

Everyone, including hard-core sinners, are invited to go there fearlessly, confidently and boldly to receive

mercy and grace! As long as they are willing to repent.

Unfortunately, self-righteous people usually think they do not need help from God. They also don’t see the

need to ask forgiveness, because they that think they are without sin. They also don’t see the need for a

Saviour, because in their eyes they are not in need of salvation. They blame everything that went wrong in

their lives on someone or something else. Blame shifting will never help anyone to become mature or

responsible. Unless they repent, they cannot receive mercy.

On the other hand, there are those who realise that without God there is nothing good in them. They are in

desperate need of a Saviour, because they want to deal with their sin. When this happens, there is great

hope for such a person, even when he/she was a chief sinner, a prostitute, a murderer, a gang leader, or a

rapist. The willingness to take responsibility for one’s life and actions is marvellous! It is a sign of maturity.

Thank God! for this marvellous throne of grace where sinners may freely go to receive forgiveness for their

failures!

3. What is the God of grace like?

Can you imagine pouring your heart out and confessing your deepest, most terrible sins to a loving,

righteous and sympathetic person? What if this person is compassionate and very understanding too,

desiring only the best for you? Well, that is a smashing picture of what our Father in heaven is like!

I will try to describe the joy of confession as best as I can... Could you imagine yourself for a moment,

confessing sins to God? The Holy Spirit will convict you of your sins and help you to be sincere in your

confession. Now, everyone experiences confession differently. It usually goes hand in hand with a feeling

of release as the weight of sins begin to lift. The burden of guilt and shame will eventually go too, if you are

serious about cleaning the slate of your life.

If this is all new to you, it might be hard to picture, but just try to think of the sense of freedom when you

would be stripped from those sins for good. Better still: when you are pronounced innocent by God on all

charges confessed and separated from them as far as the east is from the west!

Any true heart will by now become thankful for such an amazing, forgiving God. You might even begin to

sing songs of joy!

You might try to imagine yourself, being quiet, like a baby on his mother’s breast, and completely at peace.

Your heart might be feeling light by now, because it was poured out to God and cleansed... Finally, think

what it will be like to be in His bosom, comforted by His strong arms...

4. Now, shall we go there?

Are you ready to go to that throne? You may simply go there by faith. Then talk to God. Take your time and

tell Him about all the wrong things you have done. Acknowledge your sins to Him. Ask for His forgiveness.

Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven,

whose sin is covered.

Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not charge iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no

guile.

I confessed my sin to You,

and my iniquity I have not hidden.

I said, I will confess my transgression to the LORD:

and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Ps. 32:1-2,5

Thank Him for His abundant mercy and grace.
