The rustic hotel is an old “cascina” built in 1800. It was in urgent need of renovation in order to keep up with the state- of-the-art energy technology. The standard is an innovative, energy-saving concept for heating and warm water. The goal is to cut energy costs and lower emissions according to the standard of energy class A. A modern, central heating system combined with a water/water-heat pump with inverter technology guarantees high, energetic utilisation with hygienically flawless water heat- ing. AQUATOP T heat pumps with free energy

The running costs of AQUATOP T heat pumps are well below

those of conventional heating systems. They tap into the ener-

gy stored in the environment (e.g. in ground water) and use

this to generate thermal heat. Moreover, AQUATOP T heat

The new system

The modern system has been split into three segments and

zones: restaurant, kitchen and guest room. The ELCO system

meets the full range of hot water and heating needs. A heating

system consisting of an AQUATOP T22 heat pump and two

VISTRON 500 hot water tanks supplies the kitchen and restau-

rant. The guest room has two AQUATOP T22 heat pumps for

low temperature heating. In the case of peak demand for

hea ting and hot water, a gas condensing boiler is switched on

depending on the need. The SOLATRON A 2.3 fl at collectors

supply the energy needed for hot water: free solar power.

The high-quality VISTRON hot water tank is available up to a

volume of 500 litres and is characterised by the highest degree

of functionality and reliability. AQUATOP T is the new generation

of ELCO heat pumps. They tap into the energy stored in the

environment and use this to generate thermal heat. AQUATOP T

heat pumps use the soil as well as ground and surface water as

a free source of energy, ideally for use in new buildings as well

as for renovation.

Effi cient technology controls the need for warm water and heating

The word “cascina” originates from the Tuscan dialect and can

mean anything from refuge or shelter to hospice. A cascina in

the original meaning is a small, simple stone house with a few

of the things that people need to survive: a small fi replace, a

place for sleeping, and something to eat and drink. In the past,

the “cascina” was intended for herdsmen and roamers who,

surprised by the adverse weather, needed a shelter. Guests

today will fi nd all of that at Bed & Breakfast Ca‘ Nea, of course

with fi rst-class comfort and the most state-of-the-art heating

technology – by ELCO.
