RENAISSANCE INFLUENCE:
THEN . . . AND NOW
Chelsey Cook’s four, Global Studies 9 classes recently studied the Renaissance, with the unit culminating in the creation of a “museum” in the Newark High School library. Depending upon interest, students broke up into groups that would study these topics: art, music, literature, architecture and science and technology.
Students in each group then picked a favorite Renaissance work from the 14-17th century and wrote about it, explaining how it re!ected the culture of the day. "en each created his or her own similar work, again writing a explanation of why it re!ected the Renaissance period. Once done, Cook and NHS Librarian Jackie Miller created an exhibit of the students’ works with the look and feel of an actual museum exhibit.
"e exhibit opened in mid-April with a museum walk for Global Studies 9 classes and others. “I think the students learned a lot and de#nitely got a lot out of this,’’ Cook said. And what did students say about the study?
“Was a fun, unique learning experience.” _ Michael Hu$eman “"e museum walk helped me learn about the other inventors in a hands-on experience and it was very interesting and fun.” _ Liam Kellogg “Was a cool way to learn about the Renaissance and helped me learn about the other subjects that we did not focus on. _ Logan Moynihan
