Cheryl Admire is a financial advisor with Edward Jones.

Mary Bartrop is a certified Zentangle® teacher.

Frank Berna has nearly 25 years of experience in various aspects of photography.

Gayle Dorio is a registered Interior Designer and orchid society member. She has won many ribbons and medals for her orchids.

Marty Dorio, Ph.D., has adopted, studied, and taught others about new technologies. He is a member of the Naples Mac Users Group.

Thomas Eastwood had careers with the ATF and DoD where he conducted and led counterintelligence and criminal investigations.

Steven Derfler, Ph.D., is a Professor of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Mark Ehman, Ph.D., is an instructor in the Department of Communications and Philosophy at FGCU.

Gerald Franz, Ph.D., has been a history professor and college librarian for 29 years, earning five graduate degrees along the way.

John Guerra, a Columbia University graduate and former Wall Street merchant banker, is the FGCU Director of Continuing Education.

Carol Jonson, M.A., was a facilitator for the Hodges lifelong learning program where she taught humanities, art, and literature.

Shelly Kaufman has a degree in communication and is a lifetime fan of movies from 1930 to the present.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Membership Fees are non-refundable. If a program is canceled, you will be notified by phone and issued a full refund

within 14 business days. If you wish to withdraw from a program, please notify the Renaissance Academy at 239-425-3272 no later than 5:00 pm three

(3) business days prior to the first session of the program in order to receive a refund. Individuals who cancel after the start of a program will not receive

a refund. Unless otherwise stated, a fourteen (14) business day notice is required for refunds on all day trips and special programs (SP).

The first fee listed for all programs is the Member price; the second is the Non-Member price. Members and Non-Members must

very subjective endeavor. There are no hard-and-fast rules to follow that always assure your picture will be, well, “picture perfect.”

However, an understanding of light, exposure, and compositional guidelines that can be applied to virtually any scene will enhance its

impact. Understanding these principles will help you to capture more compelling images, turning your snapshots into works of art. This

photographs, layers, straightening horizons, color adjustments, removing or minimizing wrinkles and blemishes, adding or eliminating

items from a scene, changing the color of a particular object in a scene, changing from color to black and white or sepia, moving parts

to trigger our memories, and to communicate how we felt to others. To do this, we need to think and feel as much as look when setting

out to make photographs. Travel photography expresses the feeling of a time and place, portrays a land, its people, or a culture in its

you find and keep your digital images in an organized and easily accessible manner. Picasa also has basic editing capabilities to improve

your images, or just have some fun with them. This is a great entry-level course for someone who wants to get the most out of their

The Religion of the Founding Fathers $24 / $29

We often hear that the U.S. was founded on the premise of separation of church and state. But what was the "religion" of those signers

of the Declaration and the Constitution? We know that many of them were influenced by the Church of England; others were Scotsmen,

Roman Catholics or deists. How did their particular perceptions shape the thinking and the daily life of the early American? Our

discussion will identify the stated religion of the signers of the original documents, but will address in depth the positions of three or

The Protestant Reformation $24 / $29

Protestantism sent shock-waves through Europe in the 16th century. Why? Protestantism, though diminishing in numbers, continues to

hold a dominant religious influence on American society. Why? This course will describe briefly the major Protestant reformers and

explain how their ideas were transplanted to America. The course will also address the major differences between various Protestant

groups. Finally, there will be a short discussion concerning the Protestant position concerning the many social issues confronting the

Monster Hurricanes: Nature’s Awesome Machine $20 / $25

NC6862 – Naples Center – July 9 at 10am – 11:30am, Thursday – 1.5 hours

Andrew, Camille, Gilbert, Donna, Wilma, Sandy, and some 280 other storms bearing minimum sustained winds of 74 mph have blasted

one or more states since 1851, when record keeping started. At 200 mph, Andrew, Camille and other “cat 5” hurricanes terrorized and

destroyed all in their paths. Originally identified by year or shore destruction, later by women’s names, and finally, men’s names were

also honored. We will look at how and why they form, grow, move, and die. Hear the stories behind a half-dozen or so raging storms.

Be prepared to fly into the heart of one of these monsters where deceptively peaceful, wispy clouds float over a foaming hellish sea

gentle, flowing movements of Tai Chi promote better health, leg strength, and an overall feeling of well-being, according to the Mayo

Clinic. The rhythmic movements and controlled breathing of Tai Chi, or “meditation in motion,” requires practitioners to live in the

present, thereby reducing stress and producing an inner calm. Tai Chi is low impact, reduces blood pressure, and is especially suitable

dialogue, use it to craft scenes that show rather than tell, and use it to provide story and character background.
