Remote Sensing Earth Science Teacher Pilot Program
Inspiring the Next Generation of ExplorersSharing NASA Science and Technologies with
Educational Communities
RSESTeP is a three-tiered Remote Sensing Program in which 4th - 12th Grade Science Teachers are trained to use cutting edge NASA resources and technologies to implement local Earth Science Missions with students and communities.
Satellite UAV Ground
Alignment with NASA’s Strategic PlanSupporting Educational Goals/Objectives 6 & 7
6.3: Enhance science, technology and mathematics instruction with unique teaching tools that only NASA can provide that are compelling to educators and students.
7.2 Improve science literacy by engaging the public in NASA missions and discoveries, and their benefits through community outreach, media..
Teachers submit ideas for local Earth Science Missions they’d like to implement with their students and community. Selected teachers come NASA GSFC for a FULL week of RSESTeP Training to prepare them for this task.
RSESTeP Training Includes:
Basics of Remote Sensing
Using Image analysis software programs
Interpreting satellite imagery
UAV Mission Prep
& Safety Protocols
Assembly/Prep/Payload Controls
GroundTruthing Data Collection
Include: • Kestrel 4000 Hand Held Weather Station
• Garmin GPS
• TI Graphing Calcualtor /Vernier Field Probes (Temp/O2/ Carbon/Ph, Light sensors)
• Fluke Ground Thermal Sensor
