Forced migration• Refugees are people who
have been forced to flee an area – because for example they are persecuted for their religion, e.g. Tibetans escaping Chinese troops (may cross international boundaries)
• Refugees are also created by natural hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes (they do not tend to cross international boundaries)
Voluntary migration
• The migrants choose to move. The do not have to move.
• They may be looking for a:
• Better job• Be near friends/family• Attractive location
