FIELDS FOCUS

Hi Everyone,

Last Friday it was great to award our 2021 Team Captains, Specialist Leaders, School Grounds for Learning Leaders and Junior

School Council members, their badges at an outdoor assembly. Whilst this celebration took on a COVID safe format, it still

illustrated the pride and confidence that our students have for our school. I wish all these students the very best as they represent

their peers in their decisions and leadership actions.

As a means to acknowledge the excellent learning and conduct that occurs at Berwick Fields we will continue to award students,

with our Excellence Awards, Fielder Certificates and Bronze Butterflies at school assemblies. The Excellence Award enables us to

foster our culture that encourages student to care deeply about the quality of their work; inspiring integrity, knowledge, dedication

and pride. We will also be sustaining our treasured Fielder awards as a means to acknowledge personal achievements and efforts,

along with our Bronze Butterflies, who’s leadership is endorsed by our School Council.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Volunteers for our Bunnings BBQ in Clyde North

We are looking for volunteers to donate some of their time to help Berwick Fields run a

barbeque at Bunnings Clyde North. If you are free on Saturday 13 March to help us cook and

serve, but more importantly have some fun socializing with our local community, please fill in

the following form (https://forms.gle/wUMgctGyhijSmGF38).

The barbeque will run between 8am and 4pm. To start serving from 8am we would need some

assistance from 7am for preparation. For a successful day we would love to have 5 volunteers

on each 1 hour shift. You are more than welcome to volunteer for longer than a 1 hour shift.

Kind regards,

[email protected]

Extra Long Weekend

Finally, enjoy this longer weekend with Monday being a public holiday and Tuesday also being a School

Council endorsed student free day in support of our staff’s professional learning. TeamKids will be open on

Tuesday if you require care for your child/ren so please ensure you have booked them in either via TeamKids’

website or contact Reece directly on 0484 300 074.

Word of the Term!

At our virtual assembly I introduced the students to the word courteous given its strong connection to our school value of

friendliness! In their classroom they will be challenged to use this word in their conversations and in their writing. I would

encourage you to have a go at using it at home too and see if they recall it being our school’s words of the tem! This effort to build

children’s vocabulary has great benefits for their literacy, social skills development and self confidence.

Camp to Canberra

This week has certainly been a memorable time for the 105 grade six students that attended the camp to Canberra for an education

tour of the national capital. With so many significant monuments and sights such as the Australian Institute of Sport, the Electoral

Education Centre and Questacon to just name a few, students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational

programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance

of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in

meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics

Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion, and was

already deducted from the amount charged to families for the camp.

Mr Mills did report back to me that this group of students were very knowledgeable during the Parliament House tour, demonstrated

by the excellent questions that they asked so great to see that the preliminary work paid off. We are anticipating that they will be

some exhausted students (staff and parents) over the long weekend!! I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank, on your

behalf the committed, energetic, enthusiastic and fun loving adults who went along. A big thank you to James Bray, Travis Carter,

Kym Daniels, Irina Gillespie, Katherine Lynch and Renae Russell. who supported both the students and our staff on this big

adventure! Thank you to Jo Brown, David Campbell, Colleen Davies, Amy McGavigan, Kate Malone, Dale Mills and Tanya

Wright for the high quality care and attention they gave all the students who attended.

Important Reminders

Find your place in the world! We would like the Berwick Fields

community to reconnect with our school garden. We are seeking

volunteers to get involved in our garden classes and

community programs. Do you have an interest in growing

vegetables, herbs or fruit? Are you handy with garden

maintenance?

Commencing week 6 on a Wednesday once a fortnight (even

weeks 6, 8, 10), we are opening our garden to all students and

community members alike to work after school. So dig out your

gloves, slap on a hat and come and join us on Wednesday 4th

March, between 3:30-4:30pm. We will meet at the bike shed.

If you would like to join us in the garden we would love you to

100 Word Challenge – Term 1 Week 5

Thank you to everyone who entered the first 100 Word Challenge for 2021! The prompt was to imagine a giant box is delivered to your front doorstep with your name on it. What’s inside and what happens when you open it?

Ishaan B 2DOne bright morning, there was a parcel delivered outside my home. I didn’t know what was inside the box. I opened it and I saw a magical remote control Porsche. I wanted to test the car out. This car was unusual because while I was controlling it was getting bigger and bigger. I was alarmed. I quickly opened the garage and I parked it inside. I sat inside the toy car and it felt like a real one. It was a two seater with a convertible roof. It had no buttons but a screen controlling everything. Next morning, I took the car on a long drive. I felt fantastic.

By Chloe L - 1DI came home from school. There was a giant box on the doorstep. It had my name on it. I was excited and nervous because the box was wriggling.

I went to get Dad because I didn’t know what it was. I stood back a little bit and the box wriggled open. I saw what it was. It was a cute unicorn with a rainbow horn and purple mane. It looked playful. I was just excited now because I like unicorns.

I took it inside and watched it run around. It was running so fast it was hard to stop. It jumped when it stopped.

100 Word Challenge – Term 1 Week 5

Thank you to everyone who entered the first 100 Word Challenge for 2021! The prompt was to imagine a giant box is delivered to your front doorstep with your name on it. What’s inside and what happens when you open it?

Shrihan S - 5DIt was a dark misty jet black night. I walked outside and I instantly started shivering. It was as cold as the Antarctic and I could feel the ice forming on the grass. The thing I found most puzzling was that there was a massive box outside on my house but I quickly rushed inside my house but I had a gut feeling it was not a good idea to open the box! There could be anything inside the box but when I opened it there was a secret dimension to another world. The place was the most amazing place to be seen. it all ends in an amazing way.

Marlia A - 5D“Ding dong,” As the doorbell rang Kimmy raced downstairs, I always got excited when the doorbell rang because I was excited to see who it was, but this time it certainly wasn’t something you would usually expect. Kimmy opened the door and a dark black figure appeared. “I have a package,” he said. “Who for? ”Kimmy asked curiously. He didn’t answer, instead he walked off. Kimmy glanced at the package, it had my name on it! As Kimmy opened it she got sucked inside! When she opened my eyes she saw a strange blurry blue figure, it was a dragon!
