DESCRIPTION

This property was previously operated as Spruce Grove Café, campground, cabins and bunkhouse. Google searches will find posts from people who had delicious home-made burgers and other meals. It has not been in business for a while and needs someone with a vision and is handy with repairs and renovations.

It is a flat property with lawn on most of the land, and parking. Coalgoat creek runs year-round and is the south property line with Crown land rising up from the creek.

There are six buildings. The main lodge had the commercial kitchen, dining room and public washrooms on the main level at the front of the building. The rear of the main floor has a bedroom and lots of storage area and what could be a second kitchen. Upstairs is two bedrooms. There are two one room cabins and a large bunkhouse. Also there is a garage and a generator and water pump house. The property is off-grid with the nearest hydro supply a few kilometers to the west.

The C2 Commercial Highway Tourist zoning allows for a multitude of uses; accessory buildings, accommodations including campgrounds, retail sales, service and repair, petroleum distribution and transportation facilities. This property could offer multiple services to the tourist industries in the area such as hunting, fishing, back country ski touring, snowmobile and ATV tours. AREA DATA

CherryvilleCherryville is an unincorporated community in the foothills of the Monashee Mountains in British Columbia with a population of approximately 930. It is located 14 miles (22 km) east of Lumby, along Highway 6.

The small community of Cherryville was an old gold mining camp founded in the 1860s by prospectors from the California Gold Rush who had come north to the British Columbia gold rushes. Between 1863 and 1895 the original town that is now known as Cherryville was a small mining camp located within the canyon walls of Cherry Creek. Its population was 100 people, half of which were Chinese miners.

With more and more miners heading into Cherry Creek area, a road was built from Lumby in 1877 through Blue Springs Valley, attracting new families to the area. The community was known by the post office name of Cherry Creek, then Hilton. It was officially named Cherryville in 1919, after the wild Choke Cherries that grow along the banks of the creek.

Services in Cherryville include accommodation, two general stores, restaurants, a library, a campground, shops and other amenities. Originally an area of orchards, ranching and logging are major industries in the community.

Monashee Powder SnowcatsLocated on the leading edge of the Monashee Mountain range, about 30 km southwest of Revelstoke and 30 km south of HWY 1, an area unsurpassed for its quantity and quality of snow. The average annual snowfall of 60 ft of dry, champagne powder guarantees you fresh tracks every run on our five alpine ridges, spectacular natural glades and fantastic open tree skiing. The 17,000 acres of Monashee Powder’s terrain has been described as some of the most exciting in the industry.

Kingfisher HeliskiingThe Kingfisher Heliskiing tenure area is located in the Central Monashee Mountain Range in the immediate and surrounding vicinity of Keefer Lake.

Kingfisher Heliskiing chose the tenure for its proximity to local services and the variety of accessible skiing terrain. The area offers skiing and riding for all skill levels. This heli-skiing tenure has arguably the best tree skiing in the Monashees. But it is not all about the trees, they also have incredible alpine skiing and an excellent climate that offers clear flight paths to and from key alpine zones.

The heli-skiing tenure is between Monashee Pass and Highway 6, the famous Powder Highway that is the gateway to the Kootenays. The Kettle River and Inonoaklin Creek are to the south, Barnes Creek and height of land overlooking Whatshan Lake are to the east.

Other areas include the Pinnacles, Monashee Creek, Railroad Creek and Cusson Creek watershed basins to the north, and Mt. Beaven, Monashee Creek and drainages and the village of Cherryville to the west.

VEGETATION

The property itself is flat with grass and gravel parking. There is a rock bluff to the west, and treed Crown land to the east and south. The north property line faces the highway with very good visual exposure.

HISTORY

In the early 1860s the area’s first pioneers settled on the banks of Cherry Creek (now known as Monashee Creek), located in a narrow draw in the valley. It was a budding and as yet, unnamed settlement, consisting of two houses and another building being constructed.

In 1865 Cherry Creek made news when it was reported that the Cherry Creek Gold and Silver Mining Company had discovered a rich gold and silver quartz lead on the creek. Unfortunately, this claim was never proven and a brush fire destroyed the Cherry Creek Company’s cabins and mine workings. By 1876 placer gold was reported in quantity on Cherry Creek by both white and Chinese miners. That year 20 men were reported working on Cherry Creek. Yields were $4-$5 a day. Although this gold was fine, some nuggets were found, one weighing 8.5 ounces. The placer gold from this creek is unusually high in silver with the fineness running around .720 fine.

With more miners heading into the Cherry Creek area, a route from Lumby was built by the British Columbia Department of Public Works in the summer of 1877. At that time the road was a mere eight feet wide track. With this new road, families began to arrive in the area.

Between 1863 and 1895, the original area grew into a small mining camp boasting a population of more than 100 people, half of which were Chinese miners.

From 1863 to 1930 numerous mining companies operated in the area. It had been calculated that over $125,000 worth of gold had been extracted from Cherry Creek. This figure was calculated when gold was selling at $7.50 an ounce. By today’s prices, that would be approximately $112,000,000.

To this day many people are searching for gold in the area. Some claims can be purchased online.

RECREATION

Greystokes, Granby Provincial Parks are close to the property as well as Bisson Lake. Monashee Provincial Park is in the area, as well as Sugar, Keefer, Whatshan and Arrow Lakes. The Kettle

Valley FSR is about 200 metres from the property and can be accessed by a trail along the highway.

The area provides for bountiful recreation; fishing, hunting, boating of all types, ATV riding, some of the best snowmobile riding in BC, back country skiing, heli and cat skiing. There is also gold panning actively pursued in the area.
