REALTY REVIEW – November & December 2014
Few important Homas should be performed, like Ganapathy Homa, where the lord of Obstacle is
evoked to remove hindrances that prevent the path for entering the house. Ganesha smoothens the
and planets so that the inmates of the house are blessed with good fortune. Important pujas and Homas are conducted on that day. Priest services play a vital role in fixing an auspicious time and day as per the horoscope of the house owner. Types of House warming rituals Apoorva - House constructed on newly selected land. Sapoorva - Entering the house after a stay abroad or elsewhere or entering into a resold house. Dwandwah - House repaired/ renovated due to damage
caused by natural/ unnatural calamities.
All Gods reside in the 'Cow' so it is decorated and worshiped with flowers, turmeric and kumkum. Priest chants the mantra of Gow-Puja and the family members offer fruits and touch it asking for its blessings. Then the cow and calf is then taken to all rooms. If it is a flat then it is worshiped outside.
Another Puja is done for Threshold of God Ganapathy, Lakshmi and Saraswati as they reside in the Threshold
which is very important as it guards the owner.
Entering the house is also a procedure. First
the wife should carry a pot full of water and
enter the house placing her right feet. Then
her husband carrying a photo of Gods follows
her into the house.
Then the children‟s enter the house carrying
groceries which represent prosperity of the
family. Finally the relatives and guests enter.

path throughout the life. The Navagraha Homa, where the word 'Griha' means planets. So our house
has the influence of all 9 planets. We should appease them and get their blessings to get good
protection from all ill effects of planets and dangers caused. The Lakshmi Homa, where goddess not
only gives prosperity but health too. She gives spiritual gains and beauty. After the Homas performed
priest is given fruits, flowers, betel leaves-nuts etc as a mark of respect followed by priest's blessings.
On the day of Griha Pravesh the owner with spouse and children should stay overnight. They should
not keep the house locked and in dark as it is considered to bring ill luck. Therefore, living in a house
should be considered only after all rituals are completed.
