My dear Sisters,

We would like to express our gratitude once again for the time we spent with you. We enjoyed being with you in each community and we felt at home.

The liturgy of today invites us to throw our nets on the other side, and that we help each other ’to journey as one apostolic body’; trusting in the richness of our charism, to give a prophetic response for today.

Many thanks for your generosity. The donation that we received will be used to share with the most needy in our congregation.

May God bless you, and we continue to be united in prayer for Sr. Jackie RJM.

ST. JOHN - VISITATION, BRONX NEW YORK On Sunday, August 27, Reverend Michael Kerrigan, pastor, the parish council, and parishioners held a farewell/appreciation celebration honoring the Religious of Jesus and Mary and all the RJMs who have served in the parish over the past 114 years. Msgr. Hugh McManus, a former student of St. John’s and friend of the RJMs presided at the liturgy which was followed by a lovely reception and gathering at the Parish Center, formerly St. John’s convent.

The event brought together RJMs who had been students, teachers, principals at St. John’s; men and women who had been students of our sisters; and members of the Family of Jesus and Mary as well as many long-time friends.

Attending the celebration were, in the back row: Srs. Christine Carrigg, Janet Stolba, Patricia Ryerse, Margaret Perron, Doris Bissonnette, and in the front row: Srs. Norene Costa, Kathleen Scanlon, Loretta Knapp, Claire Dandeneau, Patricia Brito, and Vivian Patenaude.

TAKE ACTION TO SAVE DACA

On September 5th, many stood with Dreamers outside the White House as they cried when the news broke that President Trump is repealing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, then marched with them to the Justice Department, chanting “Undocu-mented, unafraid!"

The Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns shares the heartache of the approximately 800,000 young people in the DACA program, known as Dreamers, who find themselves without work permits, without protection from deportation, and trapped in the Kafka-esque bureaucracy of the U.S. immigration system.

To end the DACA program is to deny the gifts and talents that these young people offer to our communities and to ignore yet again our responsibility for fixing our broken and cruel U.S. immigration system.

It is intended to protect immigrant youth who entered the United States as children and know America as their only home. This bill would grant permanent legal status to more than 1 million young people, including 800,000 young people who received temporary relief from deportation and employment eligibility through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which President Trump plans to repeal in coming months.

The young people the Dream Act of 2017 seeks to protect are contributors to our econo-my, academic standouts in our universities, and leaders in our parishes and communi-ties. As Catholics, we have long supported the Dreamers as we believe in protecting the dignity of every human being, especially that of our children.

St. Timothy’s community took advantage of one of the hottest days of the summer to take a trip to Roger Williams’ Park Zoo. Some were even brave enough to venture a ride on a camel. Here are some highlights of our day.
