FROM THEPASTOR’SDESK
This Thursday we celebrate Thanksgiving Day; a day to celebrate our thankfulness as a country and give thanks to God for all the blessings we have received from Him. We give Him thanks for His mighty deeds, especially for Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist. The word “Eucharist” means thanksgiving. So, in each Eucharistic thanksgiving, we should not only give thanks for the natural blessings, but for the fact that God supernaturally enters our lives. As Catholics, we should recognize that we have the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving every day through the Eucharist. May we all continue to be thankful that our Lord gave Himself to be our ransom from sin. Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.
THANKSGIVING DAY PRAYERLord, we thank You for the goodness of our people and for the spirit of justice that fills this nation. We thank You for the beauty and fullness of the land and the challenge of the cities.
We thank You for our work and our rest, for one another, and for our homes. We thank You, Lord: accept our thanksgiving on this day. We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
THANKSGIVING BASKETS –The Holy Angels sponsored Thanksgiving Baskets will be delivered this Sunday, November 18.

“Behold, he is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him.” – REVELATION 1:7
ASK DEACON JEFFWhat is the difference between evangelization and catechesis?
Evangelization is the personal encounter of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with someone who either never knew Christ or has fallen away from belief. You may be recalling the grand images of the missionary Saints preaching and converting hundreds, or even thousands, with a single sermon. However, in our postmodern society, I believe that style of evangelization is no longer feasible. Now, we need to go out and share Jesus Christ in a one-on-one basis. In other words, we need to form trusting relationships and help them come to love their Savior! Every Catholic is called personally by Christ to evangelize.Likewise, every Catholic is called to engage in Catechesis. Which is simply, the fancy term for our on-going formation as Catholics. Once a person is evangelized and they have belief in Christ, then it is time to begin teaching them about the teachings of Christ and His Church. For example, the moral precepts, Sacramental theology, Christology, Mariology, etc. That being said, all of us are called by Christ to continually catechize ourselves through exploring the rich depths of the Church’s teachings. Thankfully, there is an abundance of Papal documents, books, and online resources to help us grow in the knowledge of our Faith.Thank you and God Bless,Deacon Jeff StegbauerPlease continue to send in your questions to [email protected]!

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (CCHD) – This Sunday, November 18, the universal Church recognizes the World Day of the Poor, the same weekend as our annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the national, anti-poverty campaign of the U.S. bishops. CCHD has been an immeasurable blessing for thousands in our Archdiocese over the years. Just this past year, the agencies funded by CCHD have empowered more than 2,500 low-income people to break the cycle of poverty through such feats as finding jobs, responsibly reentering society after prison, educating youth, and securing decent housing and public services for their communities. Archbishop Dennis Schnurr appeals to the faithful this year: “Through the grants we make to well-vetted organizations, CCHD uniquely empowers those in poverty to identify their own needs and to become their own agents of positive change.” Please give generously! Your dollars are making real change!
THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21 AND THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22 FOR THANKSGIVING.
FORMED – Great Catholic Movies – Bring the True and Beautiful into your living room with a selection of inspirational Catholic movies. To sign up, go to Formed.org. SAINT OF THE WEEK
ST. COLUMBANFEAST DAY: NOVEMBER 23
St. Columban was born in West Leinster in modern-day Ireland in the mid-sixth century. He was educated and as a young man suffered from terrible temptations for sins of the flesh. He sought counsel from a religious woman who had forsook the world. The saintly woman told him that he must take up a life of Christ, and to leave the country of his birth. Columban entered a monastery and after some time was given permission by the abbot to leave the monastery for Gaul with about 45 other monks who were to be missionaries there. They were given land and settled in the mountains of Vosges, where they built a monastery. Their monastery soon flourished under their Abbot, Columban. Despite his success the bishops of Gaul asked him to leave their territory due to the Celtic influence in his monastic and liturgical practices. However, by that time his monastery had foundations in modern-day France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy leaving a great influence of strict monastic life and love for Christ. Columban left Gaul and travelled throughout parts of Europe. During Columban’s life an enemy of his assumed power in the country where he lived and forced him to leave. Columban, around the age of 70, left for Italy and settled in Bobbio where he founded a monastery. On November 23, 615, St. Columban died in Bobbio, after his enemies asked for his pardon, friendship, and return to Gaul.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWSWHO DOES GOD WANT ME TO BE? This question can be very ambiguous for many of us even into our adult life. As we recently celebrated Vocations Awareness week, let us open our hearts to what God wants us to be in this earthly life. Family can certainly foster a genuine love for doing all work and activity
for the good of the Lord. As children of God, we tend to find that our Heavenly Father leads us where He needs us when we immerse our faith into our day to day living. Help your child(ren) open their hearts to the hear God through prayer. Perhaps this one will speak to you and your family.
A CHILD’S PRAYER TO KNOW MY VOCATIONDear Jesus,I know You love me. I know You have a great plan for me.I know You want me to be a saint. Help me listen for Your voice.Help me know who You want me to be. Help me say yes to Your call.I love You Lord and I thank you. Amen
