Power is critical at every stage
- During exploration
- Cost and reliability of power is key for the investment decision
- Construction and commissioning are impacted by power situation
- To secure the full production and revenue from operations
- Extend the operation and profitability
Different type of solutions for mining companies in Katanga
1) Rely on the grid
2) Import power
3) Become a self power producer
4) Rely on the expertise of a rental power company

Aggreko Equipment in Action
Fuel Management
Aggreko provides a full range of fuel management equipment including:
High capacity fuel tanks
Fuel filtration systems
Highly accurate fuel meters
Fuel heating systems for projects in cold climates
MMG Case study
- MMG production was highly impacted
by unreliable power from grid
- In end 2012 Aggreko and MMG entered
in formal agreement for a 12MW/33KV
power plant in continuous and 4MW/33
KV in standby, all diesel powered
- End of 2013 this agreement has been
extended to a further 8 MW/33 KV
diesel to reach a total of 24 MW
capacity. The entire power is planned to
run at least up to end 2015.
- This capacity can be ramp up of down
depending of quality of power from grid

MMG: testimonial
MMG request that Aggreko maintain a minimum of 5 generators on line in order to keep power to the site following a trip of the utility supply. Load shedding disconnects the main productive loads at these times and retains light & power to the plant. There is a significant SAFETY benefit in keeping the lights on after these outages. This also allows a restart of the plant very quickly after an outage. Aggreko power is used initially with a swap over to utility power as soon as it becomes available. The ability of the Aggreko station to synchronise additional generators immediately following an outage certainly allows us to ramp up the power draw and get back to producing copper. The primary benefit where production is impacted is any time that Aggreko operates more than these first 5 sets. All MWh produced by these extra generators will be utilised to produce copper. A conservative estimate of copper produced would be one tonne of copper for every 3MWh. The cash flow impact for Kinsevere would be approximately 50% of the LME price for this extra copper produced
