Graphics It was a full house on November 15th, 2019 when the Don Braden / Joris Teepe Quartet played a concert “In the spirit of Herbie Hancock” in the legendary Jazz-Club series at De Witte in The Hague, The Netherlands. Expectations were high, knowing that Don and Joris had more than 25 years of collaboration behind them. When they met in 1993, Don and Joris immediately recognized their compatibility of personalities and attitudes, and thus began a long productive collaboration including touring, composition, education and recording. Their last album, Conversations (2016), is strong proof of that and was highly acclaimed by many, including DownBeat magazine. Judging by the standing ovation at the end of the De Witte concert, the same might happen for this album. The great pianist, keyboardist, bandleader, arranger, composer and actor Herbie Hancock (b. April 12th, 1940) is one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound. His brilliance and versatility inspired Don and Joris to arrange a varied selection of his compositions, from ballads to blues to straight-ahead medium swing. They also added two of their own compositions that were strongly influenced by Hancock. The music on this recording, excellently performed by a finely tuned Dutch-American quartet, aptly demonstrates the joy of playing in the spirit of their iconic colleague. Artists (from left to right): Rob van Bavel, Don Braden, Joris Teepe, Owen Hart Jr. For more info go to: https://www.oaprecords.com/ http://www.donbraden.com/ http://www.joristeepe.com/
