The Power of Eight experiential group

“When individuals in a group focus their

intention together on a target, a powerful collective dynamic emerges that can heal long-standing conditions, mend fractured relationships, reduce violence, and even

rekindle a sense of purpose in one’s life….” —from The Power of Eight by Lynne McTaggart

But the greatest discovery of McTaggart’s experiments is that group intention has a reciprocal “mirror effect,” not only transforming the recipient but also reflecting back on the senders.” Franc Cavazos, CLC member and longtime scientific/spiritual seeker, invites you to come “tap into your extraordinary human capacity for healing, using the miracu-lous power of group intention and its positive mirror effect,” as we continue the experiential activities from The Power of Eight. Eight , 6:30-8 , starting 7. Appreciative giving. Please sign up in Builders’ Hall.

what we do

The CLC Children’s and Youth Services Department is devoted to celebrating the spiritual develop-ment of each child we teach. All age groups are involved in various activi-ties, workshops, and special projects incorporating the teachings of Sci-ence of Mind. We strive to create an atmosphere of love and kindness in our words and actions toward each other and to recognize and honor the diversity of every person.

• Toddlers (18 mos. to age 3) are lovingly cared for by our toddler teachers. In their very artistically designed Discovery Room, the children are encouraged to interact and experience their world as only a toddler can. They are offered games, toys, books and other age-appro-priate activities in a safe, secure and loving environment.

• 4-6 age group. Beginning around the age of 4, our toddlers are moved to the Ingenuity Room. This group begins to learn the basics of treatment and the value of giving a smile and a kind word. Our creative teachers provide age-appropriate instruction and activities.

• 7-12 age group are in the Quimby Room, regularly practicing the steps of Treatment presented in a manner appropriate to their age group. The teachers provide learning tools, creative projects, workshops and other teaching methods to en-gage each child’s learning of the principles of Science of Mind.

• 13-17 age group meets on the second floor of the Learning Center in the Hopkins classroom. They are engaged in special projects, work-shops, have guest speakers and are involved in several volunteer service endeavors at CLC. The teachers work-ing with this group encourage their talents, keep them engaged in learn-ing Science of Mind principles and we throw in some fun along the way!

teach our children well...  We teach our children that God is Life—the Life within each of them and in all Creation—that all people are children of the One God, and therefore, are all brothers and sisters. • We teach that God is all-inclusive and we are each created in the image of God—Good. • We teach that God is Love, and we honor God-in-all through love, not fear. • We teach that sin is simply a mistake and when we make mistakes, we are educated by them, not punished by God. • We teach that God is Spirit and present everywhere, that this Spirit is within us and speaks to us through our minds when we are willing to listen. • We teach that there are spiritual laws that must be understood and followed, just as we follow human laws. • We teach that religion is something to be used every day, not just on Sundays. • We teach that Religious Science is a religion that can be used at home, at school and at play; that since God is within us, heaven is also within us, that is we learn to live our lives in harmony with God’s Law, we live in heaven now. • We teach that keeping the mind focused on good causes a richer experience of life. • We teach that God is truth and beauty, peace and harmony; that as we grow to be more like God, our lives will be filled with health, happiness and success. • We teach that nothing is too wonderful to happen, nothing is too good to be true: everything is possible to God through me and you! —adapted from a work by Dorothy Quigley

Sunday circles Children begin their learning adventures in the registration area in the youth foyer, 10:15-11 on , then move to their classes, to be reunited with their

parents in the Great Hall in time for the closing song. Some Sundays we offer special theme workshops for the kids, too. Age-appropriate prayer/treatment opens all the clas-ses, and for each class there is age-appropriate discussion of the month-ly theme and creative projects to enhance the learning. Just after noon all the teachers and children gather in the reception area of the Learning Center for our closing prayer circle. Then the teachers bring the children to you in the Great Hall. Please remember that no youth are to roam the Center grounds unattended, and that we have service audio in the babies’ room at the rear of the Great Hall. Leading the youth is Rev. Mar-sha Lehman at [email protected], assisted by practitioners Linda Cles-son and Marissa Mijal. Our youth chaplain is Rev. Debra Morwood at [email protected].

At 11 on Easter Sunday, CLC kids will enjoy a holiday

party just for them! To help plan and decorate,

Gary Kindy, member of the original study group that grew into this Center, passed into Spirit on December 29.

Roberta Celeste “Bobbie” Giachini, RScP Emerita, longtime friend and then member of this Center, gradu-ated into larger life on February 3. She led a charmed and rich life, as an actress, painter, lawyer for a major Hollywood studio, bank director, and competition ballroom dancer. Her internal life far outstripped the physical world. Her true love was the Science of Mind, where she rose to be a Practitioner Emeritus at Creative Life. She was born in Chicago and studied acting at Northwestern University. She next took her law degree from Columbia and became an entertainment

attorney. Her early adulthood was divided between New York and Europe. In the Sixties she began residing in Houston to be with her sister Gail. She also took a degree in bank presidency and sat on the board of a Chicago bank. Bobbie’s main passion was acting and she appeared in hundreds of communi-ty theater plays, mainly at Theater Southwest and Theatre Suburbia. She grew hibiscuses by the hundreds and painted them in chalk. Close friend and confi-dante Minnie Partida and paramour Jack Hunter will always keep her in their hearts. Her life was celebrated in a service on February 11. The Creative Life community mourns the passing of this absolute giant in consciousness, and surrounds Jack and all Bobbie’s loved ones in comforting and upholding prayer. What stories she’ll have when we meet again in eternity!

Support for Roatán, Honduras

This project has now grown into a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization called Roatán Support Effort, to allow even more ways of giving, and now with a tax-deductible status. This initiative helps by transporting essential supplies to the clinics, youth soccer league, animal shelter, community outreach program, and soup kitchen on the island of Roatán,

Honduras. All donations are used to help the island and all administrative duties are volunteer. Also needed are soccer shoes and uniforms, and children’s and adult shoes, to be placed in the bin by the copy room door. Please email Lynn Rippelmeyer at [email protected] or call her at 281-799-9866, and visit roatansupporteffort.org.
