1. Benefits of Early Diagnosis in Dementia: Karen Robins, Alzheimer Society There is tremendous value in finding out if any changes you've noticed in one's memory are clinical or normal age related changes.

2. Benefits of Reflexology: Vanessa Pazzi, Reflexologist and Reiki Master

In this talk Vanessa Pazzi, Certified Reflexologist will be discussing how reflexology works, the benefits of reflexology, contra-indications and the specific benefits of reflexology for seniors.

3. Benefits of Reiki: Vanessa Pazzi, Reflexologist and Reiki Master

In this talk Vanessa Pazzi, Certified Reiki Master will be discussing how Reiki was introduced to North America, how Reiki works, the benefits of Reiki and what to expect during and after a Reiki session. How Reiki benefits those with illness and palliative care needs will also be discussed.

4. Breathe! : Susan Chapman, Manager, Community Engagement, The Lung Association We all take about 22,000 breaths a day which we often take for granted until something changes. This engaging program will provide vital information for all of us who share the air; those who have lung health concerns as well as those who don’t and hopefully never will. Breathe with us.

5. Canadian Income Tax 101: Robert D’Alessandro, Jackie Aird Do you know which federal and provincial credits you are entitled to apply for if you are a senior or retiree? You may be overlooking some beneficial credits. Power point presentation and an opportunity for Q and A.

6. Cardio Dance Fitness: Lisa Dunlop, Fitness Instructor, City of Hamilton

A dance-based group fitness class with focus on various intensity levels and movement to motivating music. Low impact movements are easy on the joints. Music from the 60s, 70s, and beyond! Casual comfortable clothes and running shoes.

7. Cautious Consumerism: Laurie Brady, Credit Counselling Society We are faced with consumer decisions every single day. Join us for an interactive workshop where you’ll learn how to: hone your skills as a cautious and mindful consumer; create a plan to curb spontaneous purchases that includes factors like time of day, environment, mood, place, and occasion; break some shopping myths; identify marketing strategies meant to increase spending; become aware of various scams in Canada; prevent debit card, credit card and identity theft; report frauds and scams to the police, Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and the credit reporting agencies (Equifax and Transunion); recognize financial abuse if you see it, and how to help. The workshop is 45 minutes, interactive and even fun! We take a “grab and go” approach – grab an idea or two and go try it. All participants will walk away with ideas, resources and the full curriculum upon request.

How to create a Personal Profile: adding photos, posts and comments, what information to share, how to set privacy controls, finding friends and family, search techniques and tips. Q & A at the end.

10. Fire Safety for Older Adults: Pete DeBoer, Assistant Chief Fire Prevention Officer, Hamilton Fire Department “Ontario adults 65 years and older are at higher risk of dying by fire than any other age group”— No Time to Spare — Learn about Fire Safety and Prevention for Older Adults.

11. Fit for Bones: Rose Lemieux This class includes a warm-up, muscle conditioning/strength training using therapy bands & ending with a tip to toe stretch (chairs are used for support).

12. Frauds and Scams: Officer Paul Mallen, Senior Support Officer, Hamilton Police Department This presentation will deal with examples of various frauds and scams and door-to-door sales/ contracts.

attorneys for property and personal care, including capacity and dementia issues.

16. Healthy Eating for Seniors: Chwen Binkley, Public Health Dietician, Healthy Environments, City of Hamilton Nutritional needs change as you age. But no matter how old you are, healthy eating can help you maintain and even improve your health. Come join the Community Food Advisors to learn about some practical healthy eating, menu planning, and food preparation tips.

17. Healthy Living with Cooking Herbs: Philip Lee, Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Eating the right food is important to maintain good health. However, cooking with extra spices will get your body healthier. Come and listen to the current research about herbs that you can use for cooking every day.

Let’s Take the Bus: Hamilton Council on Aging: Dr. Margaret Denton, Director and Shelagh Kiely, Project Co-ordinator Let’s Take the Bus is a workshop designed to introduce and reintroduce seniors to Hamilton’s Public Transit System. Join us for a power point and an interactive workshop to learn about taking the HSR and other ways to get around the City. Board an HSR Bus to experience for yourself how age-friendly Hamilton’s buses have become! For those who do not sign up for the workshop, the bus and driver will be outside of the centre upon completion of the workshop from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. for those who are interested in learning more about how easy it is to take Public transit. Staff from Hamilton Council on Aging will also be there to assist you and answer questions.

24. Lifestyle in Cancer Prevention: Philip Lee, Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Most patients diagnosed with cancer will always wonder what had caused their illness. Now, there are quite a number of chemicals that we know can cause cancer and this important information is not public knowledge. Come and learn what you can do to protect yourself from cancer.

The McMaster Optimal Aging Por-tal is a free resource that offers easy access to evidence-based information about your health and wellness. We have access to more information than ever before. However, the volume of information can be overwhelming, and the quality of that information can be difficult to determine. This creates challenges when we have questions about our health and wellness. Learn how the Portal can help you stay healthy, active and engaged as you grow older.

26. Mindbusters: Duncan Young, Supervisor, Active Living, YWCA Research is continuously informing the numerous benefits of humour and being social on overall health and wellness. We also believe that cognitive exercises positively impact our brain health and functioning. Mindbusters is an engaging social program designed to challenge your mind using a variety of exercises in an open and fun-filled environment. Leave your workout gear at home and come prepared to laugh and work out your mind! This program is rated E for Everyone!

27. Nordic Pole Walking: Jan Murdoch, Certified Nordic Pole Instructor Jan Murdoch is committed to improving physical literacy for women (and men) 55 to 70+. Come and enjoy an active session and learn movement techniques specific for use with Nordic poles. Jan has equipment for 30 participants or bring your own poles if you have them. Or you may choose to listen and walk. Visit Jan’s website: www.womenwalkingforlife.com – there you will find many workshop opportunities to walk and connect with a group. Bring a water bottle or, if you forget, grab one from the refreshment station in the East Arena.

28. Pathway to Harmony: Laura Mercuri, Iridologist, Aromatherapist, Reiki In this session participants will get a brief overview and understanding of how iridology (study of the iris) can benefit and aid in a preventative approach to holistic health care.

29. Pedestrian Safety: Sharon Mackinnon, Public Health Nurse Kate Macnamara, Pubic Health Nurse Learn about pedestrian safety for older adults and seniors. This session will include:

· how to use pedestrian crossovers and signalized intersections · safe walking suggestions · tips for proper walking technique · hearing from you about your experience crossing the street

Workshop is also informative for drivers who are confused about all the new traffic rules.

30. Pickleball: Jeff Morgan and staff

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net. Learn the basics of pickleball from the expert instructors at Pickleball Hamilton. All equipment is provided in this active introduction to the pickleball session. There will be 6 courts available (24 players). During the session additional players will be rotated so that more will have an opportunity to participate. Wear comfortable clothes to move in and running shoes or sneakers. If you cannot participate, but still want to learn, spectators are welcome as well. Learn about where and when pickleball is available in the Hamilton area and how to join in.

31. Prescriptions, Drugs and Supplements: Barry Goldman, Pharmacist & Nutritionist, owner of BJ’s Nutrition Centre Come and join Barry as he engages you in an informative and interactive open forum on prescriptions, drugs and supplements. There will be ample opportunity for Q and A.

32. Preventing Bone Loss: Lisa Campbell, Osteoporosis Society Learn how to feed and move your bones safely to support your bone health. Discover the importance of Fracture Risk Assessment and what it means in preventing fractures.

33. Senior Safety: Const. Andrea McLaughlin, Senior Support Officer, Hamilton Police Department This presentation will focus on personal safety and what you need to know about Powers of Attorney and making informed decisions.

34. Skin Care Seminar: Andrea Warne, Cosmetic Manager, Shoppers Drug Mart General information on the skin and how to care for mature skin and protect it from signs of premature aging. Basic skin care information. An opportunity to try various skin care products.

35. Tai Chi: Colin Smith, Demonstration Co-ordinator for Taoist Tai Chi Society

37. Wills, Powers of Attorneys and Trusts: Dave Henderson, Attorney, AgroZaffiro Law Firm This presentation will focus on Wills, Powers of Attorneys and Trusts including estate planning and tax issues.

38. Yoga 101: Aldona Setej, Yoga and Fitness Instructor A beginner- friendly class with focus of ‘letting go’. We will use easy, gentle movements which will entice the body to open up and to encourage the mind to slow down. Movement will be explored as we use the breath to bring more awareness to the body. This class will introduce you to the benefits of Yoga, the benefits of slowing down and the benefits of listening to our bodies. We will begin to create length and lightness in the body, a calming of the mind and a balance within to help us deal with our daily stress. Please bring a yoga mat, a beach mat, or a large towel if you don’t have a mat.

Registration deadline is Friday, April 6, 2018. Registration on April 27

First Workshop begins at 9:30 a.m. Dress: Comfortable Casual for easy movement; running shoes preferred; layer your clothing as displays, refreshments and lunch will take place in the East Arena and some workshops may take place in the West Arena both of which can be very cool. Workshop selections will be processed as received to make it fair for everyone. Choose 4 workshops and one of the 2 lunch periods. Leave one period blank as we want everyone to have an opportunity to socialize, visit the many displays, check out the visiting bus or watch some of the fitness events taking place in the gymnasium. We have fewer workshop spaces available in the 1

st two periods so feel free to choose

Acknowledgement, Waiver & Release The participant in the Wellness Fair (the “Event”) acknowledges and agrees that RTO/ERO, including District 13, will not be responsible for any loss, injury or damage of any nature, including death, howsoever arising in connection with this trip/excursion/event. Participants in the Event are therefore hereby advised to carry their own insurance in connection therewith. By signing below and in consideration of the participant’s attendance at the Event, the participant hereby releases and forever discharges RTO/ERO, District 13, and their respective directors, officers, members, agents, employees and volunteers (collectively, the “Releasees”) from any and all actions, causes of action, claims, and demands (collectively, the “Claims”) from any loss, injury or damage of any nature, including death which has arisen or may arise from the participant’s attendance at the Event, unless such loss, injury or damage has arisen as a result of the sole negligence of one or more of the Releasees.
