The Attunement Process
As with the previous levels of your training, this final master level of study requires an attunement. This
attunement includes a single Reiki energy frequency called Dai Ko Myo (pronounced Day Koh May-Oh).
This is a symbol that is generally not used in Reiki healing session. It’s only use is to attune others to
Reiki.
To me, Dai Ko Myo feels quite magnanimous and empowering. It is slightly heavy and warm to the
touch. Often attention seems drawn to the third eye and crown. Within a few moments, energy can be
felt vibrating throughout the entire body.
Now, keeping with the theme of providing a range of attunement experiences, with this final
attunement we are going to do something completely different. First, we are going to do a traditional
meditation called Hatsurei-ho. Then, during this practice, you will receive the actual attunement.
Although I have undertaken Hatsurei-ho many times, I’ve only received an attunement this way once. It
was a very powerful experience. I truly felt blessed to be part of such an experience. To me, there was
an air of being part of something very ancient and sacred.
In fact, doing the meditation and having the attunement during this process is a very old and traditional
practice. Traditionally, this was the preferred means of attunement. Groups of students would practice
their meditation sequence and the Master would simply send a Reiju gift in the form of a symbol.
In this way, the Hatsurei-ho meditation serves as a means of cleansing the aura. Then, when the Reiki
channel is open and ready to receive the gift of the attunement, the energies come through the crown
chakra, move down into the Tanden, and infuse the whole system. This can be done as a Reiju (a
temporary attunement) or the symbols can be locked into the brain as usual.
Unfortunately, there is a reason that we don’t often do attunements following this traditional method.
The practice is quite complex and cumbersome. With this said, I still think it’s something worth
experiencing, even if it’s just once.
Please note, that for your easy reference, I have created an illustrated booklet of all the symbols taught
in this program. This includes the Dai Ko Myo Master symbol. You can find this booklet in the level four
program material area.

The Master Attunement
To begin Hatsurei-ho with attunement, sit on the floor on your knees or sit on a chair. Straighten your
back and close your eyes. Place both hands on your lap, palms up. Take a few slow deep breaths to calm
your mind and let go of the tension in your body.
Bring your attention to the Tanden (just below the navel). Quietly tell your subconscious mind that you
are now starting Hatusrei-ho.
Now, we move to the actual practice of dry brushing or brushing off. Continue to do slow deep
breathing. As you breathe out make a small sound like haaaah.
Place your fingers of your right hand near the top of the left shoulder. Your fingertips will be over the
indentation where the collar bone meets the shoulder. You hand is lying flat.
Draw your flat hand down across your chest over your sternum down to your right hip. As you do so
breathe out making that small haah sound.
Repeat the same procedure on the right side, using the left hand down over the sternum and to the left
hip. Again, making that haah sound.
Next, place the fingers of your right hand on the middle of your left forearm. Your fingertips will be on
the edge pointing outwards. Draw your right hand, flattened, down the outside of the arm all the way to
your fingertips. Be sure to keep the arm straight and at your side as you do so and breathing out that
haah sound.
Repeat this same process on the other arm using the left hand.
Now, we connect to Reiki and to your Master attunement. Raise your hands high up in the air. Imagine
that Reiki energy is flowing into your hands and running through your whole body. Continuing the
cleansing process.
Now to the cleansing breathing. Place both hands in your lap, palms upward, fingers slightly curled as if
you are holding an egg. Bring your mind back to Tanden (just below the navel). Breathe slowly and
deeply in and out through the nose. All the while thinking pure thoughts.
As you breathe in, visualize Reiki energy coming in through your crown and down to the Tanden where it
spreads to the rest of your body. Imagine as you do this that all tension is melting away and you are
feeling very relaxed. As you breathe out, make sure you are doing that haah sound.
Continue this process for a moment or two. Breathing in the energy. Watching it travel down to your
Tanden. Then, spreading out. Then, exhale. Haah.
Now, place your hands together holding them in front of your chest like you are praying. This is called
Gassho. Keeping the Gassho, bring your attention back to your tanden.
6
Level 4 4Traini
Imagine you are breathing through your hands. As you breathe in, the light of Reiki flows in through
your hands and into your Hara line, filling the Tanden. Then, as you breathe out (making that haah
sound), the Reiki energy radiates out from your Tanden through your hands.
Continue to breathe, bring in the energy through your hands. Down to the Hara and into the Tanden.
Then, radiating outwards and then back into the hands.
Now, put your hands back on your lap with your palms down. Tell your subconscious that you are now
finished Hatsurei-ho. Open your eyes and skake your hands vigorously for a few seconds.
You are now attuned to the Master symbol. You now have the ability to attune others to Reiki.

The Master Symbol
Dai Ko Myo (pronounced Day Koh May-Oh) is the Master symbol. The symbol that is used to trigger
inherent healing abilities and attune the body to other Reiki symbols. This is a symbol that is generally
not used in Reiki healing session. It’s only use is to attune others to Reiki.
As I said previously, to me Dai Ko Myo feels quite magnanimous and empowering. It is slightly heavy and
warm to the touch. Often attention seems drawn to the third eye and crown. Within a few moments,
energy can be felt vibrating throughout the entire body.

Standing Meditation
The standing meditation is a great technique that can be used to thoroughly ground yourself or to feel at
one with the earth. This can be done before doing a client session or an attunement. It can also be done
during times of stress and overwhelm.
To undertake this practice, stand and call forth the Reiki energies as you would normally do. Then, draw
the Master symbol in the air and say the mantra three times. Dai Ko Myo. Dai Ko Myo. Dai Ko Myo.
Bring your hands up, outstretched directly in front of you. Say “I establish”
Place your hands back by your sides. Then, stretch outwards to the sides, drawing a circle with each arm.
Say “My Divine Presence”.
Bring your hands back up to chest height, palms facing each other. Say “On Earth”.
Finally, push your hands down towards the ground while making a quick, blowing exhalation.
Repeat this process three times total. Allow yourself to feel the power you are creating.

Reiki Meditation
Reiki meditation is a powerful self-healing technique for physical and emotional relaxation. With regular
use can bring about mental clarity, inspiration, clairvoyance, enhanced healing skills, and expansion of
consciousness. It is an especially good methodology for those who want the benefits of meditation but
find themselves easily distracted using other forms of meditation.
To begin Reiki meditation, find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Before you start, you may
want to select a goal or challenge you’d like to work on during this time. If you like, you can also prepare
an affirmation (a positive statement expressed as though the situation you desire is already happening).
Once you are ready to settle down, close your eyes and draw the Harmony symbol (Sei Heki) on yourself
with the intention of releasing any clutter from your mind. Take a few deep breaths. On each inhalation,
breathe in the blue energy and let it expand into every part of your being. Then, as you exhale, breathe
out any tension or resistance in your body.
Now, draw the Master symbol (Dai Ko Myo) in front of you. As you write, visualize that white or violet
light is coming from your fingertip as you draw the symbol. See the resulting glowing symbol floating
before you. Say the mantra. Dai Ko Myo. Dai Ko Myo. Dai Ko Myo.
When you are finished with the symbol, visualize that it floats to the top of your head, at your crown.
Imagine that there is a field of white light there and the symbol becomes part of that field. Then, bring
your attention back to eye level once again.
Repeat the same steps using all of your Reiki symbols. At the minimum, use Choku Rei, Sei Heki, and the
Distant symbol. When you have gone through the entire process, you can recite your affirmations or
visualize your intention with regards to your goal or challenge. You can even do some distant healing of
others at this time.
If you experience a headache during this process, you may want to release any potential excess buildup
of energy. To do so, simply place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Then, focusing on your navel,
draw the excess energy inwards in a spiraling motion. Hold your attention to this spot for up to ten
minutes.
If the headache hasn’t decreased by this time, focus on your heads and feet trying to make them as hot
as possible. This will send the buildup of energy out of them releasing the pressure. Once you find relief,
you can end the session.

Reiki Box Healing
A Reiki Box healing is quite similar to the list healing that you learned in your level two training.
Generally speaking, it is meant for working on more than one person at a time. As with list healings, the
name and other important information for each person is written on a piece of paper. Often, specific
symbols are also drawn on the paper.
These bits of paper are then placed in a box. Sometimes, it is a plain box and sometimes it is a special
box that is solely used for Reiki sessions. Either way, once in the box, draw the Distant symbol, Choku
Rei, and Sei Heki with your fingers above the box. As you draw them, say the associated mantra three
times.
Close the box. Draw Choku Rei, Sei Heki, and the Distant healing symbol again while saying the mantras
three times each. Follow the same procedure for every day that the papers are in the box.
While the papers are in the box, the recipient receives a gentle steady stream of Reiki energies. Usually,
this is a long term process, done over the course of several days. For this reason, the Reki Box method is
often reserved only for those with life threatening conditions.
I do use the Reiki Box method with my Reiki for Fibromyalgia sessions. I use a box that is only used for
this one purpose. The walls of the box have the appropriate symbols carved directly into the wood.
Then, I infuse the Reiki for Fibromyalgia bundle of energy into the individual papers.
I find that with Fibromyalgia, a constant flow of energy gently relieves symptoms. With this said, my
sessions only last 24 hours. I find that sessions lasting any longer really bring up deep wounds which can
be quite unbearable threatening to further exasperate fibromyalgia related symptoms. I find it’s better
to repeat the Reiki Box procedure once a week to promote symptom management and to work through
the underlying issues at a more comfortable pace.

Attuning Others to Reiki
As you have experienced firsthand, there are a variety of ways to undertake an attunement.
Attunements can be made in person or over a distance. They can be as simple as transmitting a single
symbol to another person or as complex as the hatsurei-ho with attunement.
In essence, all attunements are the same no matter how you present them. Be that in person,
embedded in an image, as part of a guided imagery, or in a chi ball. In all cases, the master transmits a
symbol representing a particular healing frequency to the student. This symbol then triggers the
student’s inherent healing ability and does a super healing to cleanse the system. This allows the
student to serve as a channel for Reiki energies during healing sessions.
Of course, while all serving the exact same purpose, there are many variations in this process. This goes
beyond whether the attunement is done in person or by distant method. It even goes beyond which
method is more practical for the situation at hand.
For instance, in this program, you were attuned to both traditional and westernized Reiki symbols. This
was based upon my own personal choice. My desire to give you some good solid tools that would best
support you for healing sessions on your future clients.
Of course, some Masters might focus on just the traditional symbols. Others might only transmit
frequencies in a particular given Reiki variation. Still others, might choose to leave out certain
frequencies or add in others based upon their own personal experiences.
Another common variation is the number of symbols transmitted in each attunement. Originally, all of
the symbols (except the Master symbol) were given with each attunement. In this way, each subsequent
attunement served to strengthen the original attunement. Then, the Master symbol was only given to
those ready for that next step.
As you know, I metered out the symbols for this program. My intention was to provide a smooth growth
process that would allow you to practice your new skills and get to know each frequency of energy
before you moved on to more and more advanced work. I personally find that this reduces overwhelm
and creates more conscientious healers but again this is only what I’ve chosen to do.
13
Level 4 4Traini
Reiju
The most simplistic attunement is drawing the Master symbol on the palms of your student’s hand and
repeating the mantra three times. My first master, Richard Rivard, suggested this method for giving
Reiki as a gift or as a little thank you. Essentially, this method opens up the recipient to their own
naturally healing abilities.
Please note, however, that Reiju does not connect the individual to any particular Reiki symbols or
frequencies. It simply opens them up to their inherent healing abilities. Moreover, since the
representation is not locked into the recipient’s brain, this ability will wane if not used regularly.

Level 4 4Traini
The Attunement Steps- Hands On
Have your student sit comfortably, preferably in a chair so that you have easy access to both the front
and back of your student.
Begin the process by placing your hands on the top of the individual’s head. Close your eyes and center
yourself through deep abdominal breaths and/or meditation.
Draw Dai Ko Myo over the crown, repeating the mantra three times. In your mind’s eye, picture the
symbol going into the crown chakra and moving to the base of the skull.
Touch the left shoulder of your student, signaling them to raise their clasped hands to the top of their
head.
Draw whatever symbol you are attuning the person to the air above their hands. Picture the symbol
going through their hands, into the crown chakra, and then moving to the base of their skull. As you do
so, chant the mantra three times.
If you are attuning the individual to more than one symbol at this time you can now do the same
process with the other symbols.
Gently move the person’s hands down from the head to relax on their lap. Move to the front of the
student. Open their hands flat.
Draw whatever symbol you are attuning the person to in front of the student’s third eye. Repeat the
mantra three times. Envision the symbol moving into the third eye chakra. Do the same process with
any other symbols you wish to attune the person to at this time.
Draw that first symbol in the air above your student’s hands. See the symbol move into the hands as you
say the mantra three times. Once again, do the same process with the other symbols.
Bring the student’s hands together and move them in front of the heart. Blow the first symbol over their
hands. See the energy proceed up to through the third eye and crown chakras then move down to the
solar plexus chakra and back to the hands. Do the exact same procedure for any other symbols you wish
to attune the person to at this time.
Move to the back of your student once again. Look down into their crown chakra imagining you can see
their heart chakra. Place an affirmation into the person’s heart by repeating it three times. I like to use
the phrase “You are a confident, conscientious healer.”
Bring your hands together, placing your thumbs at the base of the skull. Say “I now seal this process with
Divine Love and Wisdom.” Picture a door with the first symbol being closed and locked as the frequency
is permanently imbedded into the individual. Do the same with each of the other symbols you are
attuning the person to at this time.
15
Level 4 4Traini
Place your palms on the student’s shoulders. Repeat the following affirmation: “We are both blessed by
this process.” Ask the person to place their hands on their thighs and breathe deeply for a few
moments. The attunement is now complete.
16
Level 4 4Traini
The Attunement Steps- Proxy
If you are using the proxy method for distant attunement, the process is much the same as that of the
hands on attunement. Instead of drawing each symbol on an actual person, you will be doing them on a
proxy such as a teddy bear, photograph, or piece of paper. In this way, the item becomes the symbol for
that specific individual.
Before you start, state your intentions for the attunement. For instance, it is my intention to attune Jane
Doe to traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho level two. This teddy bear will serve as her proxy. May we both be
blessed by this process.
Begin the process by imagining you are placing your hands on the top of the individual’s head. Close
your eyes and center yourself through deep abdominal breaths and/or meditation.
Draw Dai Ko Myo over the crown, repeating the mantra three times. In your mind’s eye, picture the
symbol going into the crown chakra and moving to the base of the skull.
Now, draw whatever symbol you are attuning the person above the proxy’s hands. Picture the symbol
going through their hands, into the crown chakra, and then moving to the base of their skull. As you do
so, chant the mantra three times.
If you are attuning the individual to more than one symbol at this time you can now do the same
process with the other symbols.
Next, draw whatever symbol you are attuning the person to in front of the student proxy’s third eye.
Repeat the mantra three times. Envision the symbol moving into the third eye chakra. Do the same
process with any other symbols you wish to attune the person to at this time.
Draw that first symbol in the air above your proxy student’s hands. See the symbol move into the hands
as you say the mantra three times. Once again, do the same process with the other symbols.
Bring the proxy student’s hands together and move them in front of the heart. Blow the first symbol
over their hands. See the energy proceed up to through the third eye and crown chakras then move
down to the solar plexus chakra and back to the hands. Do the exact same procedure for any other
symbols you wish to attune the person to at this time.
Imagine you are looking down into the crown chakra of your student. See down into their heart chakra.
Place an affirmation into the person’s heart by repeating it three times. I like to use the phrase “You are
a confident, conscientious healer.”
Bring your hands together, placing your thumbs at the base of the skull of your proxy. Say “I now seal
this process with Divine Love and Wisdom.” Picture a door with the first symbol being closed and locked
as the frequency is permanently imbedded into the individual. Do the same with each of the other
symbols you are attuning the person to at this time.
Repeat the following affirmation: “We are both blessed by this process.” Ask the person to place their
hands on their thighs and breathe deeply for a few moments. The attunement is now complete.

The Attunement Steps- Embedded
An embedded attunement is done in much the same way as the distant attunement using a proxy. The
only real difference is that the entire process is done by using visualization rather than a proxy. This
requires a bit more concentration and strong visualization skills.
You can embed an attunement into an image, an audio, or a video. In essence, what you are doing is
charging the object with the attunement. Then, the energies lay in wait for the student to trigger the
actual attunement. If you like, you can even do a little guided imagery so that the student can
experience the attunement as it unfolds.
Once again, before you start, state your intentions for the attunement. For instance, it is my intention to
attune Jane Doe to traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho level two. This attunement will be embed in this video
and will lay in wait for her until she views this video. May we both be blessed by this process.
Now begin the process by imagining you are placing your hands on the top of the individual’s head.
Close your eyes and center yourself through deep abdominal breaths and/or meditation.
Draw Dai Ko Myo over the crown, repeating the mantra three times. In your mind’s eye, picture the
symbol going into the crown chakra and moving to the base of the skull.
Now, in your mind’s eye draw whatever symbol you are attuning the person above the student’s hands.
Picture the symbol going through their hands, into the crown chakra, and then moving to the base of
their skull. As you do so, chant the mantra three times.
If you are attuning the individual to more than one symbol at this time you can now do the same
process with the other symbols.
Next, draw whatever symbol you are attuning the person to in front of the student’s third eye. Repeat
the mantra three times.
Imagine you are looking down into the crown chakra of your student. See down into their heart chakra.
Place an affirmation into the person’s heart by repeating it three times. I like to use the phrase “You are
a confident, conscientious healer.”
Imagine bringing your hands together, placing your thumbs at the base of the skull. Say “I now seal this
process with Divine Love and Wisdom.” Picture a door with the first symbol being closed and locked as

the frequency is permanently imbedded into the individual. Do the same with each of the other symbols
you are attuning the person to at this time.
Repeat the following affirmation: “We are both blessed by this process.” The attunement is now
complete.

Level 4 4Traini
The Attunement Steps- Chi Ball
Like the embedded attunement, the chi ball method can be prepared ahead of time and called for by
the recipient. If you use the chi ball method, prepare the chi ball as usual and fill the chi ball with the
symbols needed for the attunement.
In order to send a chi ball attunement, you must plant an energy ball within your solar plexus. To do so,
hold your hands out, palms up, in front of your solar plexus. Imagine a ball of light forming in your palms
and growing in intensity. Visualize the color, the shape, and the sound. Then, with your hands or with
your mind begin to shape this sphere. When you feel the shape is complete and you can feel the energy
pulsating, push that ball into your solar plexus. Hereafter, whenever you need a boast of energy you
may simply press lightly on your solar plexus.
This planted energy also becomes the basis of a chi ball. To make a chi ball for someone else, touch your
solar plexus and call forth some of that energy to create a ball of light. As before, visualize the color,
shape, and sound of the ball. Then, shape the sphere as seems appropriate.
Once the object is properly prepared, open the top as if it has a hinged lid. Call forth the symbols you are
going to attune your student to and place them into the void of the chi ball.
First fill the chi ball with the Dai Ko Myo symbol, repeating the mantra three times. Intend for this
symbol to move into the student’s crown and to the base of the skull when the chi ball is opened.
Then, place whatever symbols you are attuning your student to in the chi ball. Intend that these
energies will move in through the crown and down to the base of the skull where they will be
permanently embedded into the student’s being when the chi ball is opened. Place the intention that
once this process occurs it will be sealed with ‘Divine Love and Wisdom”. Be sure to say each mantra
three times.
Next, place an affirmation with the intention that it will go into the student’s heart by repeating it three
times. I like to use the phrase “You are a confident, conscientious healer. We are both blessed by this
process.”
The attunement is now complete so close the lid. Once the ball is resealed, take a few deep breaths.
Concentrate on breathing in white light and exhaling love. Then, blow onto the chi ball that you are
creating. Imagine the sphere glowing and coming to life with energy as you do so.
It is at this time that you state your intentions for the attunement. For instance, it is my intention to
attune Jane Doe to traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho level two. This attunement will be sent by chi ball and
will lay in wait until she calls for the attunement. May we both be blessed by this process.
Hold the sphere in the air and ask that the energies be sent to the student. You can either specify that
the attunements be dispersed to the individual at a specific time and place or you can ask that the
attunement lay in wait for the person to ask for it. If you don’t specify a time, make sure the client
knows to say the following when ready for the attunement to begin:
20
Level 4 4Traini
“I am ready to receive the Particular Attunement from Your Name.”
Once your intentions have been set, send the chi ball to the person. To do this, simply blow on the
sphere until you see it sailing away. The process is now complete.

Your Reiki Lineage
Each new Reiki Master traces his or her Reiki lineage from themselves, back to his or her teacher and
eventually to the original founder of that particular healing tradition. In the case of this program, I use
material from two traditions taught to me by two different Masters. For this reason, you now technically
have two Reiki lineages both leading back to Master Usui.
The Usui Reiki Ryoho traditional training was taught to me my Master Stephen Lovering. My other
Master Richard Rivard taught a method he called Threshold Reiki which included both the Traditional
Usui Reiki Ryoho symbols and the five western Reiki variations that you gained in level three of your
training. I have included the lineages for both Masters on the following pages.
Please note though that when I claim my lineage, I generally use the term Usui Reiki Ryoho as I do not
claim to be a Master in all of the Reiki traditions from which those five western symbols originated from.
I claim only the traditional version of Reiki, Usui Reiki Ryoho.

Final Word
Learning Reiki is both a gift and a huge responsibility. The ability to conduct Reiki sessions and self-
healings holds great potential as an inexpensive, uncomplicated complementary methodology for whole
health for you the Reiki practitioner, your family, and the many people that you may help.
However, using Reiki is not like waving a magical wand. There are repercussions and responsibilities
when making use of these energies. As a Reiki practitioner, you should always use your abilities for the
best possible outcome for each client. Judgments, self-serving natures, and the desire to bend the will of
these energies for your own purposes should be left at your practitioner’s door. They have no place in
any healing practice.
Please use your skills wisely and leave the planet just a bit better off than when you arrived. Teaching
Reiki, sharing your knowledge, and giving others the ability to help even more people can be a truly
joyful experience. Be sure to give generously but never infringe upon the free will of others.

Disclaimer
Reiki should always be viewed as a set of techniques best used in conjunction with contemporary
medical treatments and medications as set out by licensed medical doctors. Please be aware that Reiki
practitioners cannot legally give medical advice or prescribe medications. Furthermore, Reiki is not to be
used as a replacement for conventional health care. The role of the Reiki practitioner is to provide
complimentary care to clients to fulfill their whole health needs.
All trained Reiki practitioners are asked to consult their local authorities about specific licensing
regulations and other legalities of practicing energy work in their area.
Reiki energies should always be used in a humble responsible way for the best possible outcome of the
client. No harm is to be done.
For this program, there are four attunements (including both traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho and other non-
traditional western Reiki variations) as given to me by two of my Masters: Richard Rivard and Stephen
Lovering. Both of these individuals trace their Reiki training back to Master Mikao Usui. As with any Reiki
Master, my methodologies, organization, and information presented varies slightly from either of these
Masters. These differences in my teaching format and style are based upon my own interpretations and
personal experiences with Reiki and the processes of energy healing in general.
