Senior Silver

1. Competitions

There are currently 3 Badminton Wales (BW) Welsh Senior Silver tournaments planned for the 2017-18 season: North Wales (TBC), Aberystwyth, Ebbw Vale.

2. Events

BW Senior Silver Tournaments will be played in a Monrad/Compass format. They will feature one event only, decided by the Tournament Organiser. For example; Level Doubles only.

3. Eligibility

All players are welcome to compete, even players who have represented their country at senior international level in the 3 years prior to the start of the season. Competitors must be affiliated to BW, either through their club, individually or to an associated body (e.g. Badminton England). If you are unsure of your affiliation, please check with your club, Badminton Wales or associated body. Unaffiliated players will be required to affiliate to BW at the time of entry. Affiliation costs £12.00 for adults and £6.00 for juniors, to cover membership and insurance for the season. This must be paid to BW and forwarded along with their membership application form which can be found at www.badminton.wales/membership

4. Entries, Forms and Fees

Tournament Organisers are responsible for the draw and event seeding. Previous rankings can be obtained from the BW web site. If you require assistance with the draw and/or seeding please contact the BW Events Officer.

• Entries will be made online via www.badmintonwales.tournamentsoftware.com

• The closing date for entries will be set by the Tournament Organiser.

• Entry for doubles events will only be accepted on receipt of separate entries from both players.

• Once an entry has been submitted and accepted by the Tournament Organiser, the entrant is liable for the entry fee.

• Late entries will only be accepted at the organiser’s discretion and if numbers permit. Late entries will be subject to an additional fee of £5.

• A strict deadline for entry fee payment will be enforced at all Badminton Wales events. Failure to pay 48hours in advance of a tournament will result in a player’s withdrawal. No payments will be accepted at the event.

• In the event of withdrawals, Tournament Organisers must be notified at least 24 hours in advance of the start of play.

Page 40: Regulations 2018-19 - Badminton WalesDraw Published: Thursday 14th February ... Singles events will be based on a knockout system. All doubles first round matches will be on a group

39

• At the discretion of the Tournament Organiser failure to notify the Tournament Organiser of withdrawal resulting in a ‘No Show’ may incur an additional £10 fee on top of the original entry fee.

• Failure to pay any of the above fees may result in players being barred from entering further tournaments.

An entry list and times of play will be displayed on the BW Tournament Software website at least 48 hours prior to the tournament date. Refunds will not be provided unless there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. partner required or no partner found, cancellation of tournament). Entry fees will be set by the Tournament Organisers and may vary from tournament to tournament.

5. Competition Format (See full table page 5-6)

• The first round of each event will be played on a group basis. Groups will be a minimum of 4 where possible.

• Where there is more than one group, all players will advance through to an elimination/second group stage of the tournament.

• If the entry level for an event is sufficient for only one group, rankings will be decided by the results of group games as detailed below. There will be no final play off.

• Should a player withdraw during the group stages they will assume last position in the group.

• A player’s position will be decided based upon their group match results.

Position in groups will be established by:

• The number of matches won

• If two players/pairs have won the same number of matches, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.

• If three or more players/pairs have won the same number of matches, ranking will be established by the difference between total games won and total games lost, with greater positive difference ranked higher.

• If this still leaves two players/pairs equal, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.

• If three or more players/pairs have won the same number of matches and are equal in the difference between total games won and total games lost, ranking will be established by the difference between total points won and total points lost, with greater positive difference ranked higher.

• If this still leaves two players/pairs equal, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.

• If three or more players/pairs are still equal, then ranking will be established by drawing lots.

• If illness, injury or other unavoidable hindrance prevents a player/pair completing all the pool matches, all the results of that player/pair will be deleted. Retiring during a match will be considered as not completing all pool matches.

Page 41: Regulations 2018-19 - Badminton WalesDraw Published: Thursday 14th February ... Singles events will be based on a knockout system. All doubles first round matches will be on a group

40

• A player/pair is entitled to prizes/points according to results actually obtained before any withdrawal due to injury. If a player/pair withdraws for any reason prior to competing in an event the player/pair will not receive any ranking points and will not count towards qualification purposes.

6. Scoring

• All group matches will be the best of 3 games to 15 rally points without extended play.

4. Competition Format

Badminton Wales advises Local Authorities to carry out their local event using the same format as stated below:

• Matches can be completed on a one day format or by home and away fixtures. If using a one day format matches can be completed on a round robin basis followed by knockouts.

• Each match will consist of 5 games. 2 x Singles and 3 x Doubles, with each player playing two games. The format will be: Singles:

• 1 v 1.

• 2 v 2. Doubles:

• (c) 3&4 v 3&4.

• (c) 1&3 v 1&3.

• (e) 2&4 v 2&4.

• At least four players must be nominated in strict order of singles ability (see page 3&4) and this order used throughout the tournament. A reserve may be added to the team nominations but must take up a lower position than those previously nominated.

• In singles play the players must play in their ranked position.

• In doubles play the first ranked player must play in the Second doubles match (c).

• For each match a score sheet must (appendix 3) be completed and both 5x60 officers are required to sign it as confirmation of the result. 5x60 officers will be responsible for ensuring that a correct result sheet is handed in after every match to the tournament secretary.

• Each match will normally last approximately 1hour, using 1 badminton court.

• Each game will be one to 21 points (rally scoring) for Boys & Girls.

• Scoring can be adjusted slightly should there be any timing issues, for example matches can be played to 11 or 15 instead of 21. At the Regional Finals, scoring will be one game first to 21 without setting.
