Nanna DitzelBornin Copenhagen, Denmark in1923.Nanna trained as a cabinetmaker beforestudyingat the Schoolof Arts and Craftsand the RoyalAcademy ofFine Arts inCopenhagen. She graduated infurnituredesignin1946and es tabl ished herowndesignstudio togetherwith JrgenDitzelthe same yearand continued toworkinthe designsector untilshortly before herdeathinCopenhageninJune 2005.

From the start of her career in the postwar years, she was always challengedby new materials and new techniques.Nanna worked in various materials suchas fibre glass, wickerwork and foamrubberand invarious disciplines suchascabinet-making, jewellery, tableware,applied art andtextiles.

Inthe 1950s she experimented withsplit-levelfloor seating. From 1968to 1986she lived in London, establishing theinternationalfurniture house Interspace inHampstead withKurt Heide.

Amongher designsin continuousproductionare jewellery forGeorgJensen, textilesfor Kvadrat and furniture for Fredericia,Kvist, Getama amongst others.

Nanna Ditzelhas exhibited internationallyat One Womanexhibitions inAmsterdam,Berlin, New York, Vienna, London,Stockholm, Milan, Glasgow, Manchester,Reykjavik, Paris and Denmark.

Awarded numerous internationalprizes,including,in1990,theGoldMedal intheInternationalFurnitureDesignCompetition,

Japan, for her Bench for Two (Fredericia).Elected Honourable Royal Designer inLondonin 1996and awarded the lifelongArtists' Grant by the DanishMinistry ofCulture in1998

Artek/ Sausage Chair poster

The Finnish furniture company Artek, founded by

Alvar Aalto, re-launced the so called Sausage

Chair designed by Nanna Ditzel in the 60s. For the

promotional poster we worked with photographerduo Metz+Racine. The original idea was to make

lots of sausage dogs from balloons but in the end

we preferred the balloons by themselves.

Belmacz Bauhaus poster

We designed this Bauhaus-inspired poster for

the jewellery company Belmacz. The Poster

has angular creases which create an abstract

shape when folded together. It was sent out ina custom made angular envelope.

In connection with this project we designed

a new font called Muggenburg Grotesk, based

on a historic typeface used on cinema posters.
