The field should
have an overall
colour change to
limey-green and
yellow.
The lentil field at
left is getting close
but likely needs a
few more days of
warm weather.
Step 1: Evaluate field for overall colour change
![Page 4: Reglone Ion A staging guide...Reglone Ion – A staging guide July 2016 2 STAGING LENTILS 3 The field should have an overall colour change to limey-green and yellow. Step 2: Check the stems
Even a field that looks ready from
the road might not be. If the stems
are still bright green that is a sign
you need to wait. The photo above
is getting close – the stems are
limey green. The lentils at right
need more time – the stems are
grass green.

Bottom 1/3 of Plant
● Seeds will be dry, pods will rattle and they will have completely
changed colour

Middle 1/3 of Plant
● Seeds will be mature and starting to turn colour (lime green) and
they can be split with no juice

Top 1/3 of Plant - Ready
● Seeds will usually be bright green and juicy, but may also be
similar in colour to middle pods

Top 1/3 of Plant - Immature
● The seeds below are still immature and you may choose to wait a
bit longer for these seeds to mature even if overall the crop is at
the right stage for an application
NOTE: Once you
make an application of
Reglone Ion, the
seeds will not mature
any further.

Weedy Field?
Reglone Ion is a
contact herbicide –
it will not
translocate into the
roots of weeds.
If you have a very
weedy field, we
recommend an
application of
glyphosate**
followed by
Reglone Ion 5 days
later.
**Do not use glyphosate on acres that are intended for seed – germination will be
affected.

Ready!
Letting the pulse
crop reach a stage
of natural
senescence before
an application
ensures success
(see pic at left).
Always use
Reglone Ion as a
finisher to ensure
your crop dries
down quickly and
completely.

The pea field at
left is undergoing
a colour change,
but the green
patches indicate
this field needs
more time.
