Montgomery County Recreation offers a wide variety of exciting summer programs throughout the county with an emphasis on safety, convenience, affordability, and most of allFUN! We offer over 150 summer programs that are designed to appeal to a variety of campers. With such a broad range of programming, experienced and innovative staff, there is something for everyone.
HOW TO REGISTER
There are four ways to register: online, fax, mail in, walk in. Full details and payment information is listed on page 64 of this guide. If you need additional help, please call our Customer Service Desk at 240-777-6840.
To secure a space for your child, we encourage early registration. Enrollment is limited to ensure each camper receives a high quality camp experience.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
RecAssist Scholarships: RecAssist funds are available to county Residents who are receiving assistance from other Montgomery County agencies. Visit our website at montgomerycountymd.gov/rec for more information.
RecAssist funds cannot be used to pay camp materials fees.
EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT

Campers must be the advertised age of the camp by the start of the program.
ADA ACCOMMODATIONS
Montgomery County Government is committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As a result, children and teens with disabilities may register for the most appropriate programs for their age, needs, and skill level. There are two options: Therapeutic Recreation camps specifically designed for individuals with disabilities or inclusion in general recreation programs. If your child needs auxiliary aids or services in order to participate (such as a companion, ASL, or large print) please call a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to discuss your childs needs at 240-777-6870 or email [email protected].

something? You will receive a registration receipt or a waitlist receipt via email after your registration is processed. Please make sure your email address is current in ActiveMONTGOMERY.
2. Iregisteredonline,willIgetareceipt? If you registered online, you should have received your receipt. For assistance, contact our Customer Service Desk at 240-777-6840.
3. DoIneedtocompleteadditionalforms? Yes. Each camper must have a completed Camper Health and Information Form, a Camper Code of Conduct, and an Authorization for Medication (if applicable.) You may find these forms on ActiveMONTGOMERY.org or on our website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec. Allcampersmusthavecompletedformsonfileatthecamplocationinordertoattend.
4. Whatdoesatypicaldaylooklike? Each camp is unique, but follows similar schedules. Swim and field trips may vary depending on the camp. Please see the program specific pages for more details.
5. Whatcanyoutellmeaboutthestaff/counselors/instructors? Camp staff are carefully screened and selected for their activity skills, level of enthusiasm, ability to work well with children, and good judgment. Training is provided on safety procedures and expected conduct, as well as program planning and implementation. By state law, all staff undergo background checks. All camp directors are 21 years of age or older.
6. Canmychildbringelectronics? Unless required as part of the program, we do not encourage electronics at camp. We are not responsible for the loss or theft of electronic devices.
7. WhatshouldIsendtocampwithmychild? Have your child wear comfortable clothing for active play, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes. Pack a nutritious, nonperishable, peanut free lunch, snack and plenty of liquids. Label everything. Sunscreen can be brought to camp for afternoon application as long as it is accompanied by the Sunscreen Use Form found on our website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec. Leave money, toys, electronics, and valuables at home.
8. Isthereairconditioningatthecamplocations? Air conditioning may not be available at all locations. Sports camps, outdoor camps, park sites and school gyms are usually not air conditioned.
9. IknowlocationssometimeschangehowwillIbenotified? You will be notified via email and a phone call. Please be sure we have your most current and correct contact information.
10.WhathappensifIneedtodropoffmychildlateorpickhim/herupearly? No problem. Please contact the camp director to let him/her know your plans. Be sure to check the program newsletter for field trip days and times that may impact your drop off plans.
11.Iwillbelatetopickupmychild.WhatshouldIdo? Please contact the camp director as soon as you or your authorized pick up person will be late. We charge a $10 per child late fee for each 15 minutes (or portion of 15 minutes) after the designated pick up time.
12.Canmychildwalkhomefromcamp? If you would like your child to walk home from camp, you must indicate that on the Camper Health and Information Form.
13.RequestforinformationforChildCareSpendingReport: Receipts for out of school programs for tax purposes are available to you through your ActiveMONTGOMERY account. The Recreation Departments Federal Tax Identification number is 52-6000980.
14. How will I be notifIED in the event of a closure or emergency?
Montgomery County Recreation uses Alert
Montgomery to quickly notify the public of a closure or emergency. Rec Alert messages can be sent to you via email or text. To sign up for Alert Montgomery, visit our website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec. Text message and data rate charges through your cell phone
provider may apply. In addition, emergency information is posted on the departments website and Facebook and Twitter pages.

Led by professionals, these programs offer an ideal blend of challenging and imaginative activities in a supportive and nurturing environment. Play, socialize and discover! Children must be toilet trained by the start of the camp. No transportation is provided. Parent participation is not required, however, parents may stay based on their childs needs. Camps will not meet on July 4. Some camps may not meet on Election Day, June 26. Please check your camp schedule.
ABRAKADOODLE: BIG CIRCUS CAMP
Ages 3-5: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls welcome to the greatest camp on earth. The circus is coming to town, Abrakadoodle style. Stretch your creative muscles as you design out of this world costumes. Clown around with circus paintings and circus faces. Tame clever circus animal sculptures. Swing along to create a balancing trapeze artist. Campers will make musical instruments, learn about rhythm and create some music of their own. They will design a poster promoting a concert as well as a unique label for a new CD. Ages 8-15: So many children and teens are creating YouTube channels and in many cases, their parents are getting involved and helping their kids build and host them. In this camp, we will teach campers how to create their very own YouTube channel and upload videos they make at camp. Campers will learn to write a script, shoot, edit and then upload the video to their page. In addition, campers will be taught tips on how to attract subscribers, make stories that people want to watch, and write channel descriptions that catch viewers interest so that they can grow their audience. BAT LEAGUE: HEROES & VILLAINS CAMP
Ages 5-10: Join Bricks 4 Kidz and enter the dark city where a dangerous jokester and other evil villains wreak havoc. Thankfully there is a bat hero who comes out each night to fight against these evil-doers! The good guys will ride into action as campers build motorized models of the bat heros speedy vehicle and bat girls sleek cycle, but keep the bat light searching for the evil jokesters motorized low rider vehicle cruising through the city streets as well. Developed and directed by Coach Doug, our Challenger summer camp program has been boosted to meet the needs and interests of todays youth, while guaranteed to bring smiles and fun. Camps are designed for those who enjoy enthusiastic and athletic play. Campers are encouraged to learn skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship while playing fun games, skill activities, and recreational sports. Activities may include soccer, basketball, gym hockey, T-ball, softball, games, special events, and contests. Some non-sports activities may round out the day. There is no transportation. HOW TO TAME YOUR KAYAK
Ages 12-18: Are you ready for daily adventures kayaking and more? Then you have found the right fit. This camp encourages personal development, team building and self reflection through a variety of exciting and physically demanding outdoor activities. This is a great way to learn new skills, make new friends and have fun. The camp will be in a wilderness setting and will go rain or shine. This program is structured to provide an inclusive environment for individuals with ADD/ADHD, ED, as well as participants without disabilities. Campers will learn to flip their kayak and wet exit, do t-rescues, deep water rescues and start to learn to roll their kayaks. We will learn basic skills and do daily trips. Campers must be able to paddle their own kayaks in increasingly challenging environments and be very active outdoors for 7.5 hours each day. Campers must be able to pass a swim test on the first day of camp. Please come dressed to be wet each day. 1:4 staff to participant ratio. The majority of the first week of camp will be in a white water kayak. The second week will be in sea kayaks. KARATE CLINIC
Ages 6-11: Come and learn diversified and intensive Tang Soo Do style Korean karate and jujitsu instruction for all ability levels. UK ELITE SOCCER - TRAVEL PLAYER
Ages 7-14: UK Elite Soccer travel player camps are designed to provide travel soccer players with an environment within which they can be pushed beyond their comfort zone technically, tactically and functionally. Campers will improve their ability to perform at higher speeds of play. The curriculum is based on best practices from international player development programs, including technical stations, 3v3, and 4v4 small-sided scrimmages. HORSEBACK RIDING
Ages 8-14: Campers will ride twice a day, four times per week, swim every day, and do various unmounted horse activities including leading horses, unsaddling, grooming, bathing, cleaning tack, plus general barn responsibilities. There is no riding on Thursdays (horses much deserved day off- try running around in 90+ degree weather with a fur coat on), but campers will have unmounted horse activities such as those listed above and have the opportunity to play camp games. Ages 7-14: UK Elite soccer camps are action packed. Camp days are designed to promote learning of techniques and skills. A typical day will include games, structured practices, scrimmages, and our World Cup tournament to end each day. Ages 6-10: For elementary school youth within the autism spectrum. Activities for campers include coloring and painting, musical games, playground fun, swimming and local field trips. Quiet time, low lighting and sensory activities will be used as a transition from ESY. Depending on skill levels, campers will be divided into two groups during some activities. To be successful, campers must be able to follow one/two step directions, manage their behavior and be able to make simple choices.
