A certified consumer credit counselor who helped others regain their financial footing for over 20 years, her life changed drastically in a day. “One day, I fell at work and they insisted I see a doctor, even though I told them I was okay. It was during the visit, when additional tests were ordered, that a brain tumor was discovered.” After surgery to remove most of the tumor, Mary Elaine could not walk or talk. “I had to learn to do everything all over again,” she shares. “There are lots of things I can’t remember and sometimes I fall, so my husband doesn’t want me to be home alone—he worries about me.” Mary Elaine began attending Adult Day Services on Mondays and Wednesdays. “I love it here. I like the cooking demonstrations, the current event discussions, playing Uno, and the opportunity to take a long or a short walk — I choose the long walk for exercise,” she says. “People are great here!
