Whal does Ihe PLT do?

The PLT works directly for the Assistant Chief of Siaff Personnel - Navy (ACPERS-N) and its main job is to act as a pipeline belween senior management and policy makers in Canbemlandyou.thcpeopJe at the sharp end.

This means passing information and feedback in both directions, but particularly to represent your opinions and concemsatthehighestleveJs so that they are taken into account in Ihede\"elopment of policies.

You should be in no doubt tbat the PLT has asserted influence in many decisions on personnel conditions over the years since its inception in 1974

There were many issues raised by you during last year's PLT visits that have been taken up at the policy le\"el and either already "fixed'" or included in planning to provide a solution in lhefuture

Sorne ofthes.e include • Stomge for live-in mem

bers at Fleet Base East and Garden Island. Although there is no instant solution th~ mauerhas been included in current planning and you can expect advice soon.

• E~it Survey. Why do people leave the Navy? The Exit Survey is about to stan

and will ask Ihatquestion. in a very comprehensi\"e way, of everybody before they leave the Navy.

• Earrings and hair length for males. The decision did not please everybody but at least it was a step forward.

• Uniform replacement for sailors under the age of 17

• Correction of in forma· tionprovidedtopotential recruits by recruitiog centres. A small correction to pay level detail but imponant not to be seen to be misleading

• Improved footwear fOf recruits at recruit school.

There were of course a lot of other issues raised whicb

. remain unchanged but your contributions at PLT presenmtions will help to keep the pressure on for improvement
