Since 1981, Morocco has seen a new administrative division, due to the expansion of big urban spaces (Casablanca, Rabat-Salé, Fès, etc.). The legislator deemed necessary to split up these regions in order to control their development adequately, without affecting their harmony, or their overall development: "the Wilaya". This new supra-prefectoral structure was created to play a coordination role. The Wilaya, which brings together many provinces or prefectures or both at the same time, is intended to endow big urban units such as Casablanca with an administrative organization capable of meeting the needs that emerge from these expanding cities and their growing populations

The Regions

•Tanger-TetouanSituated in north-western Morocco, the region of Tangier-Tétouan has the Atlantic Ocean as its western border, with the Mediterranean Sea and Spain to its north. The population of the region is close to 2.5 million and has Tangier as its capital city.The region of Tangier-Tetouan covers 11,570 square kilometers of land. It encompasses the provinces of Larache and Chefchaouen, and the prefectures of Fahs Anjra, Tangier-Assilah and Tetouan.Visitors to the main tourist city of Tangier will find that the destination is rich in history spanning back to the 5th Century BC. It has become a modern city with world-class hotels

and a variety of new developments. Tourists can explore the American Legation Museum and Dar El oued Makhazen, or join in the festivities of events such as Tanjazz.Also worth visiting in the Tangier-Tetouan region is the city of Tetouan. The medina has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there are several other fine attractions to explore. You may also wish to take time to visit the town of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains. Or you could spend some of your vacation in the harbor town of Larache. Wherever you choose to go in the Tangier-Tetouan region, you are sure to have a satisfying holiday.

•Taza –Hoceima-TaounateTaza-Al Hoceima-Taounate is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is located in northern Morocco in the Rif Occidental, along the Mediterranean coast. Its area is 24,155 km ² with a population of 1,807,113 inhabitants.

•Mont-Rif –TazghineThe Rif region takes its name from the mountain range that crosses it. Morocco's second string after the imposing Atlas, the latter, with a length of 260Km is arranged in an arc along the Mediterranean, on the north coast of Morocco. This mountain ridge comes to life around the city of Tangier to the Moulouya, not far from the city of Oujda, east side. The mountains of the ridge often exceed 2000 m and 2452 m even reach Mount Tidirine in the central Rif.The Rif region offers a multitude of diverse landscapes. Indeed, the decor varies with altitude, from hence coast beaches, in valleys sunburn then towering mountains covered with snow during the winter. These changes are accompanied by a landscape fauna and flora varieties with equally impressive.This region, of course, a Mediterranean climate with temperatures around 35 ° C during the summer and an average of 10 degrees during the winter, although noting the peaks are not spared by the cold and snow .Major cities in this region are Tangier, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima and Nador. •Fes –boulmaneFez is the oldest and most impressive regions Imperial land of memories, traditions and gastronomy. Built in the 8th century, it contains more history and mystery than any other place in Morocco. Fez encompasses two cities: Fes el Bali and Fes El Jadid. It is famous for its Nejjarine Square and Fontaine, mosques Er Rsif and Andalusians, the Palais Royal, the Kasbah and Karaouine University, which is older than the University of Oxford. The Dar Batha Museum is also worth visiting. The old part of the city - Fes El Bali - still retains the magic atmosphere of old times and noisy. It is built around two famous mosques: Al-Qarawiyin and Al-Andalus. It is a vast maze of winding streets and covered bazaars where, if we do not take care, (it's a good idea to take an official guide) you can easily get lost. There are wonderful examples of Hispano-Arabic architecture as well as many opportunities to see traditional craftsmen at work. The medina (market) to Fez el Bali is one of the largest markets in the world and it is also inscribed by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. You can buy almost everything. It is particularly interesting to find good carpets, rugs and ornate ironwork. As in all Morocco, business market traded quietly. They are accompanied by endless rounds of sweet tea with mint. Karaouine Mosque and Madrasa Mesbahai an old school, noted for its traditional architecture, as well as auctions end in the afternoon Kissaria, shopping area, well worth a visit

•Rabat-Salé-Zmmour-ZaerThe region Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It lies to the northwest of the country, including the capital and its hinterland. Covering an area of 9,580 km ² it is home to around 3.2 million inhabitants.

•Meknès-Tafilalet Composed of a prefecture (Meknès) and four provinces (El Hajeb, Ifrane, Khénifra and Errachidia), the region of Meknès-Tafilalet currently 2,141,527 inhabitants (7.16% of the national population), of which 59% live in urban areas . Its area covers 79210 km ² or 11.14% of the national territory.

•Grand Casablanca Casablanca (lit. the White House), original name in Berber: is a city in western Morocco, located on the Atlantic Ocean. It is the capital of the Grand Casablanca region.Casablanca is Morocco's largest city as well as its chief port. It is also the biggest city in the Maghreb region. The 2004 census recorded a population of 3,500,000 in the prefecture of Casablanca and 4,000,000 in the region of Grand Casablanca. Casablanca is considered the economic and business center of Morocco, while the political capital city of Morocco is Rabat.Casablanca hosts headquarters and main industrial facilities for the leading Moroccan and international companies based in Morocco. Industrial statistics show Casablanca retains its historical position as the main industrial zone of the country. The Port of Casablanca is one of the largest artificial ports in the world,[1] and the largest port of North Africa.[2] It is also the primary naval base for the Royal Moroccan Navy.

•Chaouia-Ourdigha Is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is located on the Atlantic plain, between the city of Casablanca, Wadi Oum er-Rebia plateau and Phosphates. Its area is 16,760 km ² with a population of 1,744,738 inhabitants3. Its capital is Settat.Ouardigha includes cities and villages known for their wealth as Khouribga for phosphates, Oued-Zem for History (20 August 1955) and Ait Ammar

•Tadla-Azlal Is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. Located in the center of the country, it includes the Tadla plain, between the High and Middle Atlas. Its area is 17,125 km2 and a population of 1,450,519 inhabitants2. Its chief town is Beni Mellal.The name of Tadla, which is Amazigh means "bouquet of wheat," evokes the agricultural wealth of the plains. Azilal that means "mountain" (peaks exceed 4000 m, such as that of Mount M'Goun)

•Souss-Massa-Draa Is one of the sixteen administrative regions of Morocco. Located in the south of Morocco, south of the High Atlas, it includes the Souss plain, part of the Anti-Atlas and the region of Ouarzazate. It covers 70,880 square kilometers and included during the last 2004 census, 3,113,653 inhabitants2. Its capital is Agadir

•Marrakech –Tansift-Houazis one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is located in the center of the country, and includes part of the High Atlas. Its area is 31,160 km ², representing 4.5% of the national territory, with a population of 3,102,652 inhabitants3. Its capital is Marrakech

•Doukkala-AbdaIs one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is located south of the central plain, on the Atlantic coast. It is spread over 14,285 km ², with a population of 4,284,039 inhabitants2. Its capital is the city of Safi.The region consists of the provinces of El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi and Youssoufia, the first two provinces correspond to the historic region of Doukkala and the last two, approximately that of Abda.

•Guelmim-Es-Semara Is one of the sixteen regions of Morocco. It is located in the south of the country. Its area is 133,730 KM22, 18.8% of the Moroccan territory, with a population of 3 462 410 inhabitants. Its leader is the city of Guelmim.

•Laayoune –Boujdour –Sakia-HamraIs a region of southern Morocco. Its capital city is Laayoune.

•Oued Eddahab-LgouiraIs one of the 16 areas administered by Morocco. Its capital is Dakhla.
