Benefits of ITU-D Sector MembershipITU-D Sector Members are entitled to participate in all activities of the Telecommunication Development Sector: e.g., World Telecommunication Development Conferences and Regional Preparatory Meetings, the Telecommunication Development Advisory Group and all specialized study and working groups on issues which are pertinent to their business.ITU-D Sector Members have access to unique information related to the work of the

Development Sector and they are encouraged to submit contributions and to take part in the decision-making process of the Development Sector's activities except where these concern the structure and functioning of the ITU. Sector Members can also be associated with the organization of seminars and workshops, and have the possibility of participating actively in all the development activities of the BDT by providing experts and/or lecturers, co-sponsoring seminars and workshops, providing training facilities for national staff from developing countries, etc.

Categories of ITU-D Sector MembersThe following entities or organizations may become Sector Members according

to the relevant provisions of the Convention and for which the admission procedure may vary: e.g., Recognized operating agencies (ROA)*, scientific or industrial**organizations and financial or development institutions which are approved by the administration of the Member State concerned; Other entities dealing with telecommunication matters which are

approved by the administration of the Member State concerned; Regional and other international telecommunication, standardization, financial or development organizations.

* Telecommunication Operators & service providers** telecom/ICT equipment suppliers, integrators,

technology suppliers, SW and application developers, etc.

Financial conditions of ITU-D Sector membership

The effective amount of the contributory unit is determined everytwo years when the biennal budget is established by the Council. For the period 2006-2007, the annual amount of one contributory unit for a Sector Member is 63'600 Swiss francs (~49,000 USD).

ITU-D Sector Members may freely decide on its class of contribution ( 1/16 , 1/8 , 1/4 , 1/2 , 1, etc. up to 40 units). However, the 1/16 class of unit is reserved for Sector Members of developing countries: i.e., 3'975 Swiss francs (~3,057 USD).

Flagship groups

Programme 4 of Annex to WTSA-04 Resolution 44A developed country joins a number of developing countries in a small group to support them in their standardization activities. The close cooperation and direct support thus provided will enable the developing countries to carry out their standardization activities more effectively.The ITU/TSB supports and encourages the establishment of flagship groups, the activities of which should serve to improve the quality of standardization activities in developing countries.Details of flagship groups are posted on the ITU-T website.
