PMA Entrance Examinations

The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) invites all intelligent and patriotic Filipino youth to take the annual PMA Entrance Examinations, usually held in the middle of the year. PMA provides a well-rounded and free college education to successful applicants. As cadets, they will receive stipend while studying, be assured of a job after graduation, and have a progressive career as an officer in the Philippine Army, Navy, or Air Force.

To qualify to the stringent cadet admission requirements for PMA, an applicant must be a natural born Filipino citizen; of good moral character; single and never been married; have never sired (male) nor given birth (female) to a child; stands 5’4’’ if male and 5’2” if female; and not more than 6’4” tall; not a day older than 22 years old and not a day younger than 17 years old on April 1, on the day of admission to the Academy; at least high school graduate with a general average of 85% or higher or graduating high school senior with a general average of 85% in 3rd year; and able to perform the minimum requirements for physical fitness test.

Applicants are advised to prepare for the examination covering Algebra and Geometry; Grammar, Composition, Reading and Comprehension; and Verbal / Numerical Reasoning and Pattern Analysis. Get application forms from the Registrar, PMA, Fort del Pilar Baguio City or from your PNP Provincial Offices, or Office of The Adjutant General, Camp Aguinaldo, QC.

About the author:

Luciano L. Gaboy is a 1976 Bachelor of Science graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, USA. He was born on January 7, 1954 in Sto. Tomas, Penaranda, Nueva Ecija, He studied in Gapan South Central School

and Nueva Ecija South High School (now Juan R. Liwag Memorial High School), where he received scholarship grants from the late Senator Gaudencio Antonio. He consistently topped his studies from Grade 1 to 4th Year, graduating as class valedictorian in 1971.

Missing the entrance examinations for admission to colleges in Manila, and confronted with poverty as his father could not afford to send him to college, he tried the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City in 1971 and passed. His grades in the first semester of plebe year qualified him to take the US service academy entrance examinations in 1972. He passed the examinations for West Point which at that time admitted one Filipino cadet scholar every year.

After graduation, he returned to the Philippines and served in the Philippine Constabulary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as an officer, and later in the Philippine National Police. He served in various capacities in Mindanao and mostly in Luzon, where he handled positions of leadership and responsibility. After 27 years of continuous active military and police service, including cadet years, he filed his early optional retirement as a police superintendent (lieutenant colonel) and joined the corporate sector for eight and a half years, serving as Head of Security of one of the leading telecommunications company in the country.

He is now into private business and writing.

His first published work was a short story entitled Nancy, published in Tagumpay Magazine in 1971. In 1980 and 1981, he published two books on cadet and military humor entitled Corps DYOKZ I and II, and in 1999, published a 1,000 page Gabby’s Practical English-Filipino Dictionary. --#
