Current works Works on the project are progressing well with stormwater drainage installation continuing along Regency Road, South Road and the North-South Motorway. These drainage works will be completed in August, weather permitting.

The R2P Project commenced survey works in June, for the new heavy vehicle bypass road into the Dudley Park Industrial Precinct. Construction works are expected to commence in late August, and works completed by the end of 2020, weather permitting.

Regency Road overpass

Bridge spans for the Regency Road overpass will be assembled ‘off site’ at the Polonia Reserve and then transported using Self Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). Structures that support the bridge spans will be constructed at the South Road and Regency Road intersection. Overpass works will start in August.

For more information on the overpass, visit the project website to see the Fact Sheet: https://r2palliance.com.au/resources/publications.

Second traffic switch The second traffic switch will occur in August. This will allow the commencement of works on South Road to construct the structures to support the Regency Road overpass. This switch will involve changes at Regency Road and Pym Street, as well as changes to bus routes and pedestrian crossings.

Temporary removal of right turns from South Road to Regency Road

To maintain the efficiency of the intersection and to minimise travel time impacts, from Saturday 8 August, right turns from South Road to Regency Road will be temporarily removed to assist traffic flow

through the intersection. Prior to removal of the right turns, two signalised U-turns will be created on South Road:

1. South of Hudson Avenue; and

2. North of Tikalara Street.

For details on the U-turns, see map: Use of the South Road U-turns.

Changes to Pym Street access

The final design for Pym Street will be left in and left out on both sides of South Road, with no east-west through movement. Vehicles will be required to travel along either Torrens Road or Regency Road or use the U-turn at Torrens Road to travel east-west.

In the final traffic configuration U-turns will be available on South Road at the intersection of Regency Road.

See map: Pym Street access changes.

Traffic switched onto surface roads

Also as part of the second traffic switch, the traffic will be switched to travel on the new surface roads, allowing for construction to occur in between the

north and south bound lanes.

Bus stop relocations

To accommodate the changes at Pym Street, bus routes that currently cross South Road at Pym Street (230, 232 and 232R), will be permanently re-routed.

New bus stops will be installed along the South Road surface roads. These stops will be moved slightly north or south, as construction works progress in the area.

Bus routes will change from the first service Monday, 10 August.

For more information, please see the insert: Bus Route Changes Fact Sheet.

Changes to pedestrian access

Pedestrian access will alter when traffic is switched to travel along the new surface roads.

The South Road crossing, near Essex Crescent, will be removed in early August, and replaced with a new crossing at the U-turn near Hudson Avenue, operational from Monday, 10 August. The new pedestrian crossing is approximately 100 metres to the south of the existing crossing.

South Road pedestrian crossings at Regency Road and Pym Street will remain open.

Pedestrian access maps will be installed around the local area and added to the project website prior to the change.

Traffic management signage will be in place to guide pedestrians

Staging for the traffic switch

The traffic switch will happen over the weekend, starting on Friday, 7 August, through until Sunday, 9 August. Works will be undertaken continuously, as follows:

Saturday 8 August, 6am-7pm: northbound traffic will move to the new surface road (south of Regency Road).

Bus users will continue to use their usual bus stops but may need to use the shuttle buses to access routes 230, 232, 232R, for more details contact Adelaide Metro https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/.

Saturday 8 August, 7pm-6am: Southbound traffic will move to the new surface road (south of Regency Road). The U-turn facility near Hudson Avenue will be operational.

Removal of right turns from South Road into Regency Road and bus only hook-turns from the western side of Regency Road onto South Road southbound commence.

Between 10pm and 9am there will be a temporary closure of the southbound lanes on the North-South Motorway, between Grand Junction Road and Regency Road. See traffic restrictions section below for further details.

Sunday 9 August, 6am-7pm: The traffic switch will be completed. Bus users will be able to use their usual bus stops as per the details for Saturday.

Monday 10 August: Pedestrian crossing near

Hudson Avenue will be operational.

From first service on Monday bus passengers will need to use the new bus stops. For more information, please see the insert: Bus Route Changes Fact Sheet.
